The fact that people can't agree to disagree on this forum is ridiculous or to admit that Eaton is not perfect is ridiculous. It needs improvement. So what is the problem with that? You are absolutely right though, but that does not negate the fact that their Early childhood program needs work. Acknowledging that is actually a good thing. I'm a little nervous when schools are portrayed as everyone whistling and skipping happily through the tulips. I said the EC program needs work. I didn't say it was horrible. If a school wants to be great there is always room for improvement to get to greatness and maintain. Personally, when my school has valid issues we work hard to address them. If I learned that the community thought my early childhood program needed work....guess what? I'd get to working on it so that the next 1,000 kids would not just be fine but will have a greater and richer experience. Negative feedback is not a bad thing. I'm not raising a child who is going to be fine.....I'm raising a winner and hero and any school should be in a position to help me get my child their and if not then be open to ideas to improve so that all children are winners and heros...not just fine.

I was with you until you went 'round the bend about the "winner and hero" (WTH??) that you're raising. (What is with parents - particularly mothers - who have no idea what an incredible turn-off it is observe them building a monument to their offspring?!) Now, I want to gag a little.

Listen crazy lady, we ALL love our children and want great things for them. I'm sorry to be the one to burst your balloon of delusion, but you really need to hear from somebody that everybody else's little precious is just as above average as your own little Lake Woebegone child.

That's it. Carry on now.

Here we go with the name calling. Wow. Should I be raising a loser and coward? Hmm, I think I consistently indicated alllll children should have access to high quality early childhood education and excuse me if I just happened to mention my own child. I don't think I said my child was a prodigy or above anyone else's child...those are your words. I just preferred to use positive words...sorry you didn't approve of the choice of positive words. Hopefully we are all raising winners and heros and it has nothing to do with building a monument. Insert another word.....intellectual, bright, healthy, independent, fun, loving....whatever positive word works it has to do with raising the best people we can and if any parent feels like the school is not helping than so be it. That's why there are other schools which we obviously elected to do. That's my opinion or am I not entitled to that unless everyone agrees with it. I respect everyone's opinion on this thread its just my experience was not the same....gee and never did I resort to name calling. Oh, and I have no delusions about anything except that I thought that this listserv was a place where maturity rested. Obviously not....but I will take my crazy little ole self elsewhere. If you ask for an opinion then respect it.

Eaton is a great school in many ways - it is not perfect. However, if you want to offer feedback, expertise, involvement, and support, Eaton is your school. Parents are very involved, some teachers are fantastic, some are good, a few are average...some kids do better with certain teachers, some teachers do better with girls, boys...and the list goes on. It is not perfect, but my 2 kids love it there. When they don't we talk about why, and try and address it. When they are not super-hyper challenged every day, we talk about how they can make things more interesting or how we can manage boredom! Both my kids are very advanced, some days are great, others aren't. It's about "fit".

Of course they are! In fact it's probably difficult to believe they're still in Pre-K! (Surely the only reason is that they're at Eaton.) At any other school everyone would have promoted them to the fast track to Harvard by now.

(Sigh... I LOVE the objective advice and experiences of DCUM moms!)

NP here. I have visited Eaton twice in recent months to explore it as a kindergarten option for my child and have been pretty impressed with what I saw there. It would be very helpful to hear more from those who are commenting that improvement is needed, and to know if your experience there is recent or if it was under a previous principal.

Our negative experience there was under the current principal, who is nice, but who lacks the imagination and structure, IMO, to make the place academically great.

Our experience was with the current prinicipal and I totally agree with this poster. The principal also lacks strong leadership skills, IMO.

we are currently enrolled in eaton and we have been very involved and active. from my perspective the principal has been very engaged and is a strong leader. she is very responsive to parents and has the attention and respect from the staff/teachers--which i think is very important.
