Well, I don't consider it a safety school at all. I think it has a lot to offer. Mine was rejected by FHS for 9th, but got into a couple that are better regarded academically, including Potomac. Sometimes it can be hard to tell what they are looking for in a DC. |

I think FH let this year’s hyper admissions season go to their head.

Meaning what? They rejected candidates they should have or normally would have accepted, and their yield is going to plummet? |
Damned if they do, damned if they don’t. Jfc |
Same here, same grade. We don’t know what they were looking for but its not a huge deal as we hadn’t planned on going there anyway. |
Where are you headed? |

Perhaps they had many quality candidates to choose from |
Same here! Proud new Husky family!! Flint Hill School was our first choice among co-ed private high schools in NoVA as it met all our requirements. Location and logistics were also important to us since I live and work in NoVA and have no desire to spend hours in traffic commuting to and from school and work. That narrowed the list and eliminated a lot of schools in DC and MD, as well as "non" co-ed (or same-sex) schools. We also eliminated FCPS high schools because the class sizes are way over-crowded (30+ students compared to 18 per class). Potomac School was our LAST choice because I hate their mandatory busing policy (inconvenient). Potomac is also eliminating the Advanced Placement Program. |
With the pandemic and many families being unhappy with FCPS virtual learning experience over the past year, the private schools (including Flint Hill) have had an overwhelming number of applications for the 2021-2022 school year. Flint Hill had over 200 "incoming" students from all grades, but that number will likely change by June 1st if families (who were waiting on decisions from other schools where they were waitlisted receive acceptances) pull out. Accepted families have until before June 1st to change their minds and will lose the deposit. But on June 1st, their contracts will become binding, and they will be on the hook for the entire year of tuition, regardless of whether their child attends the school or not. |
Congrats! FHS US family here, 2 kids entered at 9th grade a few years back. Best decision ever. |
