NCSL divisions released for spring

Anonymous
My DD’s two teams (she plays up a year besides her own team) won their division last fall so she’s pretty excited for the spring and compete against better opponents. For the most part NCSL does a decent job with pro/Rel and this benefits the clubs and the league overall health

Is she really excited? Seriously? Has she been hitting refresh on the NCSL site until the schedule came out? Does she even know or understand about Promotion/Relegation? Does she honestly care?

People project waaaaay to much onto kids. Kids simply don't care, they react to what their parents care about.

I think you are assuming everyone here has a very young kid, but that isn't the case. My 14 year old kid was bummed when he checked and saw that his team had been relegated. He wasn't obsessed or anything, but he took the initiative to take a look and see and was disappointed.

Far too much time, in my opinion. Why wait until the second week of April to start playing games? That's like a month away! We really could have a few more games in the late March / early April weeks.

A) yes, very excited. Really.
B) seriously. Not kidding.
C) she hasn’t clicked refresh once (at least in front of me). Maybe she has while enjoying her privacy in her room? Who knows?
D) she knows and understands what and how pro/rel works.
E) she cares very much about her growth and development as a soccer player as she does as a student in school and citizen of the world

Bonus for you: are you always this shitty? Hopefully you have no offsprings bearing your name and mindset

LOL, sure she does.

It is ok, you are excited and that is fine. As a parent you are allowed to enjoy it but kids do not generally get excited about their league placement. It just isn't really on their radar.

Lol, I have a u17 ds and he definitely cares.

If he really cared he wouldn't be in NCSL at U17

You’re right. He is in MLS Next. Idk where you got that he is in NCSL. I have more than one kid.

What a crappy thing to say. Yes, you are right, only the most athletic kids are allowed to enjoy a sport or care about how they do in it. Everyone else should go pound sand.

It’s okay. He came at my ds, but generally posters like this have deep rooted frustrations from their own abilities. I hope his child does a little better than the poster. In sports, but mostly in being a better person.

You brought your DS in it. Nobody came at your DS. And yet it proves the point, kids in NCSL are not tracking their Pro/Rel status. They simply go to practice, got to games and enjoy it for what it is, nothing more and nothing less.

It is funny that someone would get upset at the notion and the more likely reality that kids really just enjoy the extra curricular activity for what it is and don't look at the landscape the way the parents do. To be "bummed" or "excited" is a stretch for most kids overall. Again, it is ok that they don't care as much about those things as the parents do.

You have a serious problem with black and white thinking. There are choices other than "la Masia" or "don't care what happens to my team, just fun."

What your DC's have yet experience is the fun of moving up from blow-out wins in their division to getting blown out in the next division higher and getting bumped back down the next season.

It is worst when switching from D2 to D1. Moving up from D4 or D3 is fine but there is a pretty hard ceiling from D2 to D1 and if coach has not prepared the team properly your team is in for a major reality check.

I'm a little disappointed at the lack of movement in the U9 NCSL divisions. My son's team was one of those that won most of their games by fairly large margins, and I was hoping that they'd get some tougher competition in the spring. But many, probably most, of the teams look familiar from the fall. Oh well. Here's hoping for some tighter competition in the spring!

You can always ask the coach if they can play with six instead of seven players on the field .. or if the coach rotates players into their weaker positions so they can develop more. that will give you plenty of competition

Or enjoy the succes now, because in a couple years the gap will close significantly and your son very likely will be getting a beating when scores actually are kept, logged and matter.

I agree that my daughter's U10 team is playing the same teams as in the Fall. Wish they could mix it up at the younger ages.

Also have 1 moving from D2 to D1. I am dreading that move. Long season ahead...

I think U9 & U10 they do it more based on travel distance and try to keep the games closer for everyone. Once they have more divisions than they start moving teams up and down.
