APS for a bright engaged student - APS in decline?

Many moved out of area or are being home schooled.

The application deadlines have now passed at most schools for fall 2021 admission.

So all of the reports of massive jumps in private school applications and waitlists are lies? No one is leaving APS for private school over this?

APS does have massive grade inflation in middle school. I don’t really care much. I have high achievers who have learned a ton in APS. Is it silly that well over a third of kids get all As? Yes. But my kids have learned plenty and done plenty beyond core requirements. If your kid is a self starter APS is quite good (so long as it doesn’t bother you that a bunch of mediocre students also get all As). If your kid needs As to motivate them to go above and beyond, the grade inflation can be a problem.

Well over a third may get all As in a particular quarter but all As all the time doesn't seem that common. When my 10th grader finished 8th grade they recognized all the kids will all As for all 4 quarters for all 3 years and it was about a dozen kids.

No the projections for the 2008 birth cohort. Basically after financial crisis, way more families stayed in apts and th rather than moving to ffx and aha units are on the rise.

It was Murphy who made all these projections, Durans background is equity officer so we know where the school board focus lie.

I want us to invest in all students, happily pay more property tax, to see everyone served but instead we end up with last March where we don’t teach new material b/c some can’t access. Rather than spinning up new solutions, we water things down

Will that improve after pandemic? Fairfax has it AAP and TJ; Moco has magnets, APS Has lottery only HB. Mainstream schools used to have solid fundamentals but they are too over crowded and seem giving up on differentiation
