Gap Year options for 2021 HS grads

Getting accepted ED doesn’t mean a kid is bound to start the next fall any more than getting accepted RD. Once a student is accepted, why can’t they do as they wish next fall, provided its authorized by the university?

It’s the authorized by the university part. Many don’t for ED.

Guessing yes, virtual. We are taking a gap year now, rather than later. Letting the school know right after New Years. DC is getting certified in useful interests such as EMT, expecting normalcy in 2022. Wish us luck. We are excited and optimistic.

I’m so sorry- did I read this right? We are taking a gap year? What is your gap between, mommy?

Do you think large numbers of HS 2021 grads will take gap years next year?

Not the position I would put my 18 year old in. Remember when things went sideways a year ago? Also, if my kid was going to spend a year studying abroad, I’d encourage them to do it when they can get the most out of it. Which is not going to be next year.

Technically possible? Maybe. Other Universities are reopening too and may have limits. Other countries may reopen slowly.

Good idea? No. Not really.

My neice in a private school used resources from the school to get some internships.

Some do an in fact do not discourage it at all - some seem encourage gap years. Do they like having some kids come in with other experiences outside of just high school?

It also helps them to de-densify the campus if they need to continue to do that because of the virus.
