Definitely. We did get the dog but did calculated the dog's average lifespan vs. my youngest kid going off the college. We'll probably have two years or so alone with the dog after the youngest leaves. We figure that'll be fine because who knows where the kids will go to college and what kind of support they may or may not need. Just still...we weren't thrilled about the two years. |

DS also wants skin products that don't smell too girly. Any recs, anyone? |
| My 13 year old son wants a new-to-him refurbished phone and soccer jerseys for two of his favorite players. |
First Aid Beauty (I know it sounds girly but it's not and doesn't have a scent). I bought my (then 12 now 13) yr old DS the face wash, lotion and the face wipe pads. |
Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back! The judgmental on your post is strong. Different families do things differently and just because your kids don't want much does not mean they are somehow "better." And let me throw a little judgment back at you - maybe you should examine why your teen is worried about you spending money on AP books if you can afford them. |

| 17 and 19 YO - nice razor set? |
Seconded! I would recommend fostering a dog if you got a HS kid and just want to try it out. We fostered a cat (yes yes very different I know) and my oldest DD 15 then had a nice little summer project of taking care of the cat. Fairly cheap on our end as we did not have to pay for healthcare. Cat got adopted to a forever home by end of summer and happy endings for everyone! Kids enjoyed the experience and weren't devastated when it was time to say goodbye since we made it clear it's a short term situation. DD in college plans to get a cat after graduation and I get to live out my empty nest years in peace
