Let's think of ALL the ways that families might game the new TJ admissions process

Then Annandale can reclaim Wakefield Forest and the part of Ravenworth it lost to Lake Braddock. Move the part of Rose Hill that goes to Hayfield to Edison, move Fort Belvoir from Mount Vernon to Hayfield, and move Fort Hunt and Stratford Landing from West Potomac to Mount Vernon. We would save so much money.

Nailed it. No reason for TJ, with too few seats, to exist at this point. I think that is becoming clear to FCPS.

+2. I think operating a magnet with 1825 kids (2% FARMS) when there are overcrowded high schools elsewhere in the county is an equal protection claim waiting to happen.

Right stop discrimination against Asians.

Many Asians are the victims of the current discrimination in favor of those cheating and gaming a system.

Then deal with cheating instead of discrimination against Asians.

No bingo - see Varsity Blues charging potentially hundreds of white parents with cheating, lying, scheming, bribing and committing crimes for their dumb kids.

That was mostly a NY/CA thing. The cheaters in this area mostly speak Hindi, Mandarin, and Korean.

Some white cheaters don't make all whites cheaters. Same for all other races. Stop all of this vitriol already!

You can bet there is a scamming ring made up of white cheaters. US Attorney’s office must be investigating now so be ready.

You’re assuming the future TJ will be held i no the same esteem as the current one. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. You get what you vote for.

Oh, bingo for sure. All cheating to create imbalances in elite academic admissions processes is wrong. CurieGate and Varsity Blues are very much in the same conversation, though in the case of Curie a much greater amount of the blame belongs to the company, even though there's no realistic way they can be held accountable for what they did.

But by highlighting and providing results on exactly how effective expensive test prep can be, they made the point that standardized testing is an extremely flawed way to select students.

We have heard cheating related to medical board (licensure testing) tests for many years. We must eliminate this test as soon as possible since we are talking about selecting doctors. However, most of these cases involve white students so I guess we will be waiting for a long time.

I hope they do away with TJ - it is not big enough to accommodate everyone. FCPS is too crowded, generally. Why do you think that is?

FCPS was fine before TJ, and it will be fine without TJ.

We already know that TJ attracts families from all across the globe and that they move here to attend TJ.

Given that this year is virtual, how about a parent living in another country "rents" an apartment in one of the low-yield regions. They then "enroll" their child virtually, have them attend classes and then put their child's name in the hat to see what happens? MANY children are logging into FCPS classes from outside of the area, so this is not a new thing. If they are worried about getting caught, they can always just use a VPN.

Okay, I can actually see this happening. If you have spent anytime at Carson, you will know that some kids discuss that they will go back to their home country if they do not get into TJ.

So, I can see families living outside of the county (and the country) renting an apartment/room from afar, saying that their child is being “homeschooled” and throwing their hat into the ring. If the child wins the lottery, they then actually come to the US. If they don’t win the lottery, no harm no foul.

Those folks likely will not be placed into the merit lottery.
