We're sick

Yes, but how do you think she got that cold???? Obviously she was exposed to someone with the cold virus. And if she could catch the cold she can catch Covid. It’s evidence she’s not being careful enough.

My kid got sick recently without having been anywhere in the past two weeks. Doctor said we have germs inside our bodies at all times and if we get a little run down they can emerge.

I've been getting groceries delivered for the most part but I went shopping at Safeway last week for a major shop. I went out exercising before dark several nights last week and had joggers and bikers blow past me at a mere foot away, not wearing masks.

Now we're sick. I don't think it's COVID but whatever it is, we got it because I went inside a store or because I got too close to people not wearing masks while jogging or biking (through no fault of my own). There is no other way.

Since we got this bug, whatever it is, it's clear you can also get COVID from these seemingly minor interactions with others. I'm going to go back to being super vigilant.

did you have your mask on, OP? not attacking, just curious.

I wear a mask when I'm out and about around other people. When I go out late at night, I wear it under my chin in case I need it. But going out earlier, yes, I was wearing it. A lot of other people were also out walking and jogging and biking. I can go into the street to avoid someone coming toward me from the front, but blowing past me from behind -- nothing I can do to avoid that.

If it’s any consolation, I was training for a race in the spring and spent A LOT of time running and biking on crowded trails. We didn’t know what we know now, so I didn’t think of wearing a mask. I may be vilified for saying it, but I thought it may make you feel a little better that what I did was far worse and, as far as I know, didn’t cause any harm

It is really for important for our public health that we continue to be exposed to germs. A critical piece of the coronavirus not overrunning our healthcare system (as Fauci warned over and over an over) is the immunity of much of the population from prior exposure to coronaviruses. We cannot stay locked away, hiding from germs, forever. So you got a cold, BFD.

? If prior exposure to coronaviruses was some kind of help, we'd all be in the clear. Haven't we all gotten colds -- coronaviruses -- over the years? How does that help anyone?

It’s not a guarantee that you won’t get severely sick, but that’s the theory about why some people don’t show many symptoms.

OP. Just get your family tested. Seriously. With what you describe it is unlikely to be COVID that you caught. But no one here can diagnose you. If you live in this area, have any symptoms, it is easy to get tested. Everyone I know in DC and NoVa where I am have gotten results back in 36-48 hours.

Sorry I mistyped I meant 48-72 hours.

Thank you for posting, OP. People need to be reminded of this.
There have been multiple documented cases of patients catching Covid-19 through such interactions.

No, actually there haven't. And the Washington Post story about the person who was "hypervigilant" mom does not count.

Not trying to sound judgy, but if you're being so vigilant and had been getting stuff delivered, why did you go to the grocery store?

I've been out and about a bunch of times but haven't done a major in person shop like the one last week. I don't know why I told myself it would be fine. I went during the huge downpour, thinking there would hardly be anyone else in the store. But I was there for a really long time. I'm not good at getting in, getting what I need and getting out.

You wore a mask in the store and others were also wearing masks and you stayed at least 6 feet away from everyone this is where you think you got sick? Was your mask a tightly woven 2 layered mask? This seems preposterous.

That said, just recently I started walking in an unpopulated neighborhoods without a mask. Every once in a while someone will jog or bike past me from behind me and I would not have a chance to cross the street as I wouldn’t see them coming from behind. UGG, I guess I’ll go back to wearing my mask even while walking in a quiet neighborhood.

Not sure why you felt it was safe to take it off, but yet, wear your mask. Everyone should be wearing a mask outside their yard.

If you are outside and not near another person, you don’t need to wear a mask outside your yard. Only if you can’t social distance do you need a mask outside. Even Fauci has said this.

No, everybody's immune system does not behave exactly the same way. Likely 20-50% of did produce the T cells to build immunity to SARS-COV2 because of previous exposure to common colds. And that helps everyone.

Many people are in the clear, researchers theorize, beecause of prior exposures. The only problem is we don't know who.

This is crazy, "not careful enough".

You people are over the top. Are you advocating for people to not leave their house at all for who knows how long? What is the point of living if that’s what life is like? I’m not advocating for high risk activities and just throwing caution to the wind. But literally never going to the grocery store or outside when there might be other people there? That is really extreme. Are you prepared to live that way for the next year? That’s how long it will be before any vaccine is ready to be widely distributed, if we’re lucky. Part of living is being exposed to germs. There are things you can do to reduce the risk of COVID that don’t involve locking yourself in your home for 12+ more months. Some of you really need to address your anxiety. A risk tolerance of zero is not compatible with a meaningful life.
