I don't think you'll really need to ask forgiveness or permission given your scenario. There are going to be tons of kids that will be/are planning to be missing far more than a few minutes of morning meeting (e.g., my ES will not be in morning meeting). |
DP. That would be great! But until then, with our current local health metrics, I want 50% class sizes and my kids in the building. |
And I want vanilla ice cream. Covid is what it is, DL it will be this year. |
Can I ask a question about attendance in here?
Is it all or nothing? Our PTA did a presentation last week and emphasized attendance being taken at 8:45am and to not miss it. Well, what if there are issues and she only gets there at 9am after attendance—does it not count? Conversely, can one be there for attendance, remain logged in and not participate? My DD will be in K, so I’m not sure what to expect. Will she accept this stranger as her teacher? Will she want to engage with the other kids in her class? (Right now her attention wakes of the Zoom happy birthday song date is a few minutes late—she’ll just leave the room. |
Sorry, you'll have to settle for chocolate. ES will be back in the building this fall/winter. |
I want in order: 1. In person instruction 2. Hybrid instruction 3. Half day 3.5 hours per day live instruction of Math, LA, SS/Science 4. 1 hour math/LA per day 5. 7 hours of live and asynchronous school |
Nailed it! Except I would actually cross off the last line completely! |
Same except for 1&2 some sort of health protocol enforcement. I’m not sure what it should look like, but the response should not be to ignore kids who won’t comply. It also shouldn’t take away a whole hour of instruction time. Part of in person instruction is teaching social norms. |
I am so mystified how anyone thinks DL is going to work for K-grade 2. Most kids are not going to have attn span it will require so much assistance. Whoever is providing the help would be better off homeschooling. That’s my secret backup plan. I Do work full time but figure a few enriching activities at the nature center, practicing reading on the side, and play dates with other neighbor kids blowing off DL is better than all that struggling over screen time. |
DP I hope that if the numbers stay as they are or even improve between now and the end of October, admin will be able to figure out the logistics and at least start phasing us back into the building in some manner. I would have been willing to teach the hybrid model, but it seems the logistics were just too difficult. Wouldn't it be nice to have a crystal ball or that magic wand? |
Op— why do you care what the teacher thinks? She doesn’t GAF what you think.
Make your kid do what she wants to and what you think is most important. Skip the rest. What do you think will happen if it’s not okay with the teacher or the school? FCPS will flunk your kid from 1st grade? call CPS? I guarantee you the dead last thing FCPS needs is a WaPo article about 70% of the first grade flunking out, and the second to last thing they want to do is draw attention to what are going to be abysmal attendance numbers. And the dead last thing CPS is going to put up with is thousands of referral for parents who say that their kid can’t handle so much screen time— when the amount required is multiples of what the APA recommends. Let it go. FCPS has taken the easy way out. Teachers are taking the easy way out. Take the easy way out for you and your kid. |
Nobody thinks it will. Not Brabrand, the principals, the teachers, the parents, or the students. Maybe the SB does because they're being purposely obtuse or are actually just ignorant. The question is what they'll do with that. |
Yes, the PP's about absentee threats are just so over-the-top asinine. |
No. This will not be easy. |
When did vanilla ice cream become unavailable? Is there a nationwide shortage? Is it not in the budget? You can't get to the grocery store? |
