No, your life isn’t more precious than anyone else’s. Therefore you should go live on a massive garbage dump in India and forage for scraps, like the least fortunate on our planet do.

I want to tip my hard working UPS folk, they are awesome. Not quite sure how to do that well. Same with trash guys. Way easier in an app — I don’t have much cash on hand.

It’s a low risk for all of only people in stores is a steady set of delivery personnel, rather than everyone. I actually try to order from wholesalers so it comes from warehouses so even less interactions for all

You tip $40 just for delivery? And I thought my $5 tip was Good enough. I’m in a lower COL area though.

I also tip $40 or 20%. Instacart etc are horrible companies. After covid I just won’t use them but for now I need to look out for the person doing my shopping. I figure $20/hour so that’s about right. My orders are pretty big because I try to only do them 1x/10 days or so.

NP here. I tip $5, but I use Amazon Fresh. The guy is only dropping the packages off, he’s not actually doing the shopping or packaging up the food.

I hate instacart, but I use one of the many services where the driver delivers food from the warehouse directly to the home, cutting out the grocery store. As others have said, this was around long before COVID, and I don't see the point in having to go through the grocery store for every shop. We do go to Whole Foods about every two weeks and shop ourselves, but this direct to consumer delivery model is efficient and I don't think unethical in any way. The service we choose is able to give us a lot of local foods as well.

$5 if fine if you’re only ordering $15 worth of stuff at a time. I buy $175-200 at a time and tip $20.

For how much in groceries? Unless you live a mile away from a Fresh warehouse you should still tip more even just for driving. Think of how much you’d tip a taxi driver just for driving.

I like to consider how many bags of groceries it is. I only spend $200 on groceries, but the guy has to make several trips from his trunk to my porch with bags. $5 isn’t enough unless he’s carrying one or two bags!

I live in Baltimore, so very close to an Amazon warehouse. I’m not tipping $20 for $40 of groceries.

I’ve been giving absurd tips for all deliveries lately but it’s because due to a strange quirk in finances I got a $1000 stimulus check without needing it at all. So I am redistributing it via tips. Otherwise I generally tip 10-20% depending on the total amount.

Your not going to grocery store means that the grocery store has less people. Less people means less chances of community spread. It keeps the grocery worker and the instacart person safe.

If you can afford to pay for it, you are also providing jobs to people who are hurting.

It is everyone's patriotic duty to wear masks. And for people who can afford it, please pay your cleaners, hairdressers etc. Please order delivery so that people are still employed.

Pre covid I did it because I get anxious in crowded stores and it’s also so cold in there. I hate dealing with parking lots too. Happy to pay a little extra for the convenience of delivery. After covid I continue to use it because it helps keep the stores less crowded and I’m helping the economy by keeping this business going. Plus all the other reasons I already cited.

Be decent and be patriotic.

- Wear masks.
- Social distance when you can.
- Respect people who are essential workers.
- Give money to cleaners, hairdressers etc, if you still have jobs.
- Order online so that you keep the grocery workers and delivery people safe by reducing number of people in stores. Tip them and allow them to be employed.

I've always done grocery delivery (no car, live downtown) and will not stop now. I tip very generously and always have.

No thanks; I’m ok with doing what I can to employ those who need income. If they have weighed the pros and cons and decided that they would like to make money by shopping for others, I’m not patronizing enough to think I should save them from that. Denying them an income wouldn’t make me a better person.
