I think it's just a few teachers here that are wildly thrashing about, offering no real solutions, insights, or long-term perspectives. They'll ultimately have to decide to leave the profession if they don't want to be part of the inevitable live instruction future.

I'm really surprised there's a poster here who thinks that parents are a client of FCPS. It's been very clear from the way FCPS acts that they don't view parents as clients.

I'm incredibly disappointed with how FCPS administration has handled distance learning. My first grader isn't learning anything. The teachers are still fumbling around with Blackboard Ultra and the technical problems continue, weeks into this.

I worry that won't change in the fall. Braband will suggest the same DL regime of 1 hr of live instruction, four days a week and parents will just have to figure out the rest. Kids will fall further behind.

I guess that's better than sending my DD back in the fall to schools where many teachers clearly hate parents and don't want to be there.

The posters to this forum are probably not representative of most FCPS teachers. I think overall FCPS is a solid school system. I don't think the posters to this forum realize how bad they would look in the Fall if FCPS is remote learning while school districts all over the world (already happening) and all over the US are back at school.

I'm sure those same posters wouldn't care. In any event if that plays out, FCPS students won't be competitive or on par with those students. I'm sure that's one of the big issues that the Governor is wrestling with.

But you already know how much DCUM posters hate teachers. You can just look in a mirror.

Teachers don’t hate parents. I see more parents here bashing teachers than I see teachers bashing parents. I’m a teacher and a parent. I agree on both ends that DL sucks, but I think anyone who thinks they have a say and what will be done next year is insane.

“Boom, roasted!” She thought to herself as she flicked potato chip crumbs out of her bra.

I think that's probably the best, most coherent recap of the situation across all these threads.

This is more of a decision for Northam than Brabrand. You know that but don't care, just want to attack FCPS.

I'm the PP. I don't hate teachers. Both of my parents were public school teachers. One taught 5th grade for 30 years. The other taught jr high history and then later, high school economics. My sister is a librarian at a university. I value public education tremendously.

MD, DC, and the rest of NoVa is already putting DL contingencies into place. My sister lives in MA, and she said it’s the same way up there. This isn’t a conspiracy by FCPS teachers to get paid and “not work.” Out of every group, we have the least say. I didn’t even find out about these DL scenarios until I got the email like everyone else. I get information quicker as a parent.

On the same note, they don't care what teachers think either. Teachers opinions matter as much as Amazon warehouse workers. The bureaucrats are just trying to protect their jobs and the school board is just trying to push their political agendas.

This is belied by the actions of the school district.
