Loudoun Soccer Just Robbed Parents

If it was a community rec sports league like CYA for instance, I would think OP was being whiny and dumb (not to realize there are costs associated with running the organization that the org needs to cover in order to keep running--an admin or two who work in the office, costs to run demosphere or similar, insurance, every volunteer background check has a fee, costs to run your cc and cost to refund your cc, costs to mow and maintain the fields, etc etc etc.

But I don't know anything about how Loudoun Soccer operates.

They have a volunteer board. They have 5-6 directors (Exec Dir, TD, etc) making the $.

But you got 70% (7 out of 10 months) of what you agreed to pay for. Rec parents got 0%.

Please stop complaining.....you're out $160, we're out numerous times that (even accounting for the 70/30 split you refer to).

Robbery is robbery, no matter the $$ amount. Thousands of rec parents out $160 is a lot of money. How many travel parents are out $1k? Also robbery. Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions taken with no services rendered.

Mandatory donations. Is that American? Is it legal?

Agree. Everyone should email the BOD and voice concerns. Their email addresses are on the website.

Parents whose kids were never put on a team aren't getting refunds. The biggest problem has been the very poor communication from the board.

I'm not a Loudan parent, but I'd be really annoyed too.

I completely get that there are fixed costs that have already been spent. I would maybe even understand if they were going to keep half the money and refund half the money

But that's not what they're doing - they're keeping ALL of the money. $86 just gone, and another $86 as a credit which may or may not be ever able to be used.

As a reference, OP, our rec league kept $20 from everyone, asked for additional donations, but if you didn't reply, you got the rest (out of $200) back as a refund.

What travel teams did or did not get back is really irrelevant to this conversation. One has nothing to do with the other.

Ditto, already filed mine with the credit card company, as did most other people I know with a kid signed up.

Emailing the BOD will do absolutely nothing. Those guys are either volunteer and probably just as screwed as us, or are the execs making 6 figures and are laughing all the way to the bank right now. Only mass credit card/bank disputes will make a difference. If there are enough of them, VISA/MC/AMX etc. might start to question their relationship with Loudoun Soccer too, hurting them even more. I say they F**K us we F**K them.

Not only am I out the ~175 paid for the season, but I also had to buy uniforms for my child, which also never got delivered.

Do the math, one of the emails said what, 20,000 kids registered. Bare minimum that's 3.5 million dollars for the season. Probably significantly more with all the travel teams and Adult leagues.

Where the hell did all that money go for a non profit organization that is mostly volunteer? Maintaining the fields? The majority of those fields are on school properties, and what is maintaining them anyways? Cutting the grass? All the non school ones have turf.

We have been robbed.

20,000 kids registered?

I thought money trickled down from ECNL!!

There is no way 20,000 kids play rec soccer for Loudoun.

One of the emails they sent said 20K registered. That may have included Travel and Adult leagues as well. Either way, those leagues are more expensive, so that would be just more money LS made...

To effect change, write to your Congressman or Better Business Bureau. Refunds must be returned to customers. At least send a check back to the families in the amount of the credit. This is a non profit organization. They can't hold money to maintain their soccer park and to keep them in business. https://www.yahoo.com/news/airlines-were-just-warned-second-160938441.html

ONLY mini's, Pre-K and first graders might get refunds. Not everyone.
