I care. I have a sophomore and his quarter 3 grades were better than semester 1 because he worked hard. There should be an option to include those grades on the transcript. It would not disadvantage other students who choose not to include their Q3 grades if it’s optional.
Also, what happens next year if there is a quarter or 2 with no grades? It’s really not fair to students. I am planning to write the BOE. |
If they were working to bring up their grades, then yes, it would hurt. |
I'm the Do.Not.Care poster. I'm just answering the question put forth in the thread title. Periods for emphasis. |
The whole pandemic isn't fair to students. And people who aren't students. |
This is what I wish. DD got her first B second MP. If her third MP grade doesn’t count toward GPA, how is her GPA affected? |
There are many institutions of higher learning that have done away with traditional letter grades permanently. Students at those institutions manage to go on and have successful lives. The pandemic has hurt our kids. The current learning system is f'ed up and does not work for many of the students in the system, who need to go to school, feel the community and be actively taught. Perspective on the situation says no grades at all. |

If they don't count Q3 grades for GPA, that's an outrage. It's a huge disservice and unfair.
Remember, too, that current HS students don't get to opt out of MS language and other advanced classes counting toward their GPA. They've made it optional for subsequent years, but if you're going to count 6th grade Spanish for GPA, you damn well better count the grades he got in AP and honors classes as a sophomore. |
Maybe you were at a school where the end of Q3 went well, but at my school the kids had tests that had a significant impact on grades after 4 weeks of no instruction. There's unfairness lurking in many of the Q3 grades, too. If your kid was not harmed in the 3rd quarter, you are blessed. |
You must have a little kid. Or a kid who does not care about grades on a college application. |
If they don't count Q3 grades for GPA, some people will be upset. or If they don't count Q3 grades for GPA, some kids' efforts will go unrecognized. or If they don't count Q3 grades for GPA, this year will not be comparable to other years. But an outrage? |
I have a 7th grader whose grades will count for acceptance to selective high school (in MD, not Montgomery county.) Still don't care. |
Write the Board! I am going to make the same point. My child got some Bs in middle school that count. As a sophomore his 3rd quarter grades (which were all As that he worked very hard for) don't count and there is no option to include them. |
The teachers were not allowed to lower their grades from where they were on March 13th, when school closed. So this scenario didn't happen. If it did, you should contact the school. |
Teachers were told to be super lenient after the break. And there were only two weeks left in Q3 when schools closed. I don’t see how too much unfairness can be lurking in Q3 grades. |
| Does any parents with high school junior have concerns? When your child apply college in the fall, how does the average GPA appear on his/her transcript? |
