| Can your middle schooler “handle” both Instagram and Tiktok? If so, he can handle both GC and Canvas. Two different platforms. It’s really not that difficult to manage. |
The difference is, it's no big deal if they forget to check Instagram. It's a bigger deal if they miss classwork. At my work, the IT manager would be fired if they said we all have to use 2 separate intranet sites, and vital company information may be posted on both sites. |
| Exactly! It should be easy as possible for all. Parents have to help their kids, now they have to learn two platforms too! |
Look, your right that a central calendar would mitigate the problem. However, the MS and HS kids are already used to using two platforms. The kids will figure it out. Also, the teachers should create a syllabus or schedule for their class so kids will not have to check for notices across two platforms |
Give me a break. First of all, most MS kids are not even supposed to on Insta. There are plenty of my kid’s friends who are not. You are supposed to be 13, and some parents still adhere to that. But there are no mandatory assignments posted on Instagram. School is different. |
My kid isn’t on social media. She can figure out two platforms but she shouldn’t have too. She’s a kid in the middle of a national disaster. |
I don't understand why she needs to figure it out. Her teachers didnt use Google classroom or Mymcps this school year? She is in middle school, correct? |
|
Yes they used the platforms during the year but not as the primary vehicle for communication and scheduling. Because they were in class with the teachers who handed out assignments on paper. The platforms were really just a back up if they missed class.
Why are you so heartless, PP, to these kids who are struggling? |
We're talking about middle-schoolers here. No, for the typical middle-schooler, a parent does not help their kid handle the two platforms their kid has already been using all year. |
It seems to me that it's mostly some parents who are struggling. |
Really PP? You must be a big supporter of the two platform system. Congratulations, you’ve made everyone’s lives unecessarily harder. I doubt you are a parent. |
No it’s not it’s because we have multiple teachers and they are all doing something different. It’s clusterf**k and it took them nearly three weeks to roll out this worthless piece of crap. Blah blah it’s unprecedented etc etc. Well how is it that practically every other school district in the country, or maybe even world can get their act together and not take nearly three weeks to do it? |
No we’re not. Neither of my kids are in middle school and both dealing with multiple teachers sending messages that need to be checked in at least five different places. |
I'm not the PP, but also questioned why this is such an issue for your child earlier in the post. I don't think 2 platforms make sense, but again, that is what my child has experienced since 6th grade. Only 1 of my son's MS teachers handed out assignments on paper this year. The other 6 teachers use Google classroom or myMCPS classroom. I apologize for seeming heartless. I assumed that the majority of MS teachers do everything online or limit paper assignments. I still believe your child is resilient and will figure it out quickly--most kids do. |
I have friends in LA, Chicago, NYC, as well as DCPS and FCPS and they wouldn't agree that their schools systems have their act together. |
