There is nothing "fair" about the process of applying to private schools.

@21:55, Firstly, who are you to judge who is poor and who isn't, and by what standards are you defining poverty? Secondly, your idea of only giving money to the truly poor, means that your school would be populated by only the incredibly wealthy and those who are at or below the poverty line. Finally, you are most certainly not carrying everyone. It's not like the tuition you pay goes into a huge pot to be directly distributed to the other families who require financial assistance. Far from it, most schools in our area require every family to contribute something to the cost of tuition. Not being able to afford tuition doesn't mean, that the opportunity should be withheld. You make it sound like needing financial assistance is shameful. What I think is shameful is your position that only those who have the means should have the access.

Indeed, agreed, proceed to smoke weed. Never have a want, never have a need.

I think you need a wake-up call! You are not special because you paid for your college education with no student loans, so did I. And for your information, if a minority is selected for a job in any significant position, you can believe they are over qualified and highly deserving!

Bottom line..I don't want to pay for your kids..and I am sure you are not interested in taking on any of my bills. Contrary about only really rich kids and poor kids in school. No..if there wasn't financial aid more...middle class kids would go because it would not be as expensive. Now schools are 30k all in and why? Because the rich are subsidizing everyone..the people who get mad about this are generally the people who are feeling justified that I should pay for them. I also think there are a lot of people who make maybe 200K a year and think they would like to go with a private school but can't because the prices are artificially higher than they should be. Frankly I would like to see more of the 200K parents who pay all in because those are the kind of people who work hard and are not asking for a handout.

@21:55, both my DCs are in an independent. I've got no probs paying top dollar and having some go to financial aid and some go to ensuring the school has great staff. If you do not want to pay $30K, then apply to less expensive schools.

No..I would rather pay for staff and other expenses and not for FA

While it's true that certain kids get preferences (siblings, teacher's kids, alumni kids, big donor kids), there are also"normal" kids who don't fit into these categories who get into competitive private schools. So with respect to those "normal" kids who get in, and those "normal" kids who do not, where's the unfairness? Maybe the ones that got in were simply better candidates.

I think the point is that only children from wealthy families, or those getting FA, can afford these schools these days. It's not about who gets in, necessarily.

"Not fair" that someone can't afford a luxury? If that's the view, it's a world problem, not a school problem.

too funny..you are talking to a $200K+ earner, who had to apply for financial aid for one year due to unemployment...this is a perfect example of how assuming you know everyone's situation, makes you look crazy...and yes, I am a minority! See how the system works... I paid full freight for 4 years, and assisted others through financial aid. Luckily, when I was need, financial aid assisted my family....Im done on the subject----
