That is way less important than the certainty of thousands more deaths if schools don't close. People won't starve. They will find a way. MCPS has already said they would provide food. You can be fired from your job, scrounge around for food, but LIVE. Whether it will be a hardship for working parents is really irrelevant. If it’s necessary for public health then it has to happen. It’s a crisis. I don’t think districts should factor in the inconvenience to parents at all, and I am a working parent.

There are schools that are meal centers. My school had a daily bbq lunch from the day after school ended to the day before it began. [/quote

THIS. OP and the other PPs are clearly privileged folks that will not be impacted by school closures. Likely stay at home or work from home parents. Most of us are not so privileged. My DD's school has a 25% FARMs rate. A lot of kids get sent home with a bag of food on Friday afternoon to help them get through the weekend. This would be devastating for those children.

For people who are worried about the not so privileged, consider how those families will be impacted by severe illness which is more likely if the schools stay open. If they can't handle healthy kids at home, how are they going to manage severe illness? or death?

Without an endgame plan, why close them? What is the plan to reopen? They close them, they’re out the rest of the school year.
At this point it would do more to restrict airline and train travel domestically.
