Welcome to DCUM where privilege is king! |
| Sure, I know it's popular to complain, but Smith has done a lot of good. Recognizing and addressing the C2.0 issues that he inherited and instituting improvements to magnet selection like universal screening did a lot to strengthen these programs. Not to mention introducing the enriched MS curriculum which I'm told is really terrific at our school. |
Smith sided with the adult rapists in MCPS. He feels personal pain when residents questioned about the rapists who raped 11 years old girl. Smith didn't say a single word about the harmed young girls. He DOES’T care! He only cares him paycheck and benefit. |
No, he didn't. No, that's not what he said. Stop spreading misinformation. https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/schools/mcps-superintendent-says-he-takes-criticism-of-adult-students-personally/ "On Thursday, Superintendent Jack Smith said he takes community criticism about the school district’s education of adult students personally. Since the arrests, some community members have questioned why the students, both legal adults, are still enrolled in school. During a news conference on a range of topics, Smith reiterated that state law requires school districts to educate students between ages 5 and 21. There are approximately 1,300 students in MCPS at least 19 years old, many of whom receive special education or English language learning services, according to MCPS data. “That is not a new phenomenon in our society, and it should not ever in any way, shape or form be construed as a new thing, because it’s not,” Smith said. “It’s also part of Montgomery County’s core values about serving every student that comes to our door. That’s our job. What kind of society doesn’t serve students in its educational institutions who need services?” Smith said he has five children, two of whom he and his wife adopted from a different country. One son began kindergarten at 7 years old, and the other started second grade at 9 years old, Smith said. They both graduated from Maryland high schools when they were 19 years old. “So you’ll see I take this kind of personally,” Smith said, adding that both are “contributing members to the community.” Smith also emphasized that Lopez and Coreas-Salamanca have not been convicted of any crimes and people should not rush to judgment until legal proceedings are complete. “We have to be very careful about what we say and who we say it to,” Smith said. “[My sons] fit into the demographic that’s being talked about in the community.”" |
Exactly Smith has a spotless record, but people here want to blame him for their failings instead of his many accomplishments. |
| Right, it is the public failings that meant cuts to special ed at every grade level; public failings that teachers are not allowed to discipline students; it is the public failing for allowing their children to attend public schools with pedophiles and rapists; it is a public failing that there are still no final exams; it is a public failing that MCPS has rampant grade inflation because no one is allowed to fail. |
It’s a pretty big problem when no teachers want to teach because of the working conditions and not feeling safe. Not sure how you do t see that as a failing. |
My favorite is attending meetings with principals and seeing people just shaking their heads at the chaos in their buildings and having to get up and leave to take calls from school because of issues. It's a struggle to get jobs done for both teachers and administrators when the kids know there are no consequences and they can do whatever they want. |

DP He expressed zero concern for the 11 year old victim. Instead, he wants to present the alleged rapists as potential victims. He did the same thing in the Rockville HS case. |
What MS is that? The ‘enriched curriculum’ is only for two classes at our MS. AIM and HIGH. |
bc his spotless record removes him from his previous system? after which he was temporarily placed at the state as a way to keep things hidden?? |
Many of us left bc of the chaos. |
If they think the public sector is rough, can't wait until they experience life on the outside. Then they'll have something to complain about. |
