I like creamy chicken rice and mushroom. (If you're willing to stock the freezer, cheddar broccoli rice and frozen broccoli is good too.)

Pastas, sauces, canned meats, vegetables, and fruits all store well. Lots of canned meals - soups, stews, chilli, etc.

You can get shelf-stable bacon. Summer sausage, pepperonis, etc., are also shelf stable. I think you can get cured hams that don't need refrigeration.

Beans, either canned or dried last a long time.

You can stock up on powdered/canned/ boxed milk. Bisquick can be used for many things.

If you get really ambitious, I've seen YouTube videos on preserving eggs, but I'm not sure how trustworthy they are. You might be better off with powdered.

Potatoes and onions will keep for months if stored correctly.

How do you store your potatoes and onions?

Pp here - ideally they should be stored in a cool, dark place. I don't worry about ideal conditions and probably lose some storage time as a consequence. I do try to keep them in the dark.

They should also be stored separately, meaning potatoes in one cool, dark place and onions in another.

I have bad luck with both. Stored separately in cool, dark, ventilated areas. All sprout within a week or two.

Me too! All my potatoes sprout within a couple weeks. I have no idea how people store them for weeks/months.

It means it’s not dark and cold enough. My grandmother had a walk in underground cellar where she used to keep potatoes all year. That thing was completely dark - not a single ray of light passed through and temperature used to hover around 40-45.

Are we planning for no gas/electricity? If stuck at home, just cook. Good time to sharpen my teen boy's cooking skills.

Just stuck at home. I think that could be a great project for a teen stuck at home!

Hmm...I wonder if I should put them in an old wine fridge we have. No air circulation though.

No harm trying. I put mine in regular fridge, it didn’t sprout but a few ended up just rotting. May be a wine fridge would work better.

I'm printing out recipe's that use pantry items. I know Pioneer Woman has a soup one that's literally like 6/7 cans dumped into a pot and simmered.

I also have a corn casserole thing that's a can of corn (drained), a can of cream corn and a small box of cornbread. Just mix and bake. It's tasty with a bit of cheese too, if you have it.

I will ask DW, she will probably mind. I will ask regardless.

Wine and popcorn

One box of Kraft Mac and cheese, prepared
One tin of chili
One tin of fire roasted diced tomato.

Mix it all up. Best dorm dish, ever, and perfectly suitable for doomsday.

So shout out to the person who had the ramen packet meatballs. I thin they would be awesome quarantine food!

I bought a lot of beans and rice but also have a fair amount of flour. Basically I am going to use the time to perfect my grandmother's flour tortilla recipe. And you can really put almost anything in a flour tortilla!

I made sure to buy shelf stable fruit cups, apple sauce, and dried fruit. It won't be long but I had scurvy in the back of my mind for some reason.
