We live 6.5 miles from school. The commute is anywhere from 25-35 mins depending on the traffic. Can get there in 15 mins if there is a need for an early arrival.
DD applied and has her hopes set on Madeira as a day student. We live in DC so this means that if she is selected we will have to leave the house NLT 0630 to make it to the bus stop in time for 7:15 departure - current commute requires that we leave at 7:30. I don’t mind driving. I am concerned with who will take on this responsibility when I have to travel for work. Good thing Madeira lets day student board a few times throughout the year if needed.
DS Wakes up @5am. We leave the house 5:45 to be at the bus stop by 6:10am has a 50 minute bus ride to high school. We are the first stop of seven. Top Baltimore High School.
+1000 we did this grind for a couple years and it was PAINFUL. |
No way you will get to a school 25 miles away in that amount of time - morning or afternoon. It takes us 35 - 40 min each way for our schools that are each about 11 miles away. You might think the afternoons are easy because it isn't rush hour yet, but the problem is all the other schools are letting out at the same time. Traffic will build very quickly. Also, check our your school's typical am and pm carpool routine. Some of those carpool lines are extremely slow, easily adding another 15 - 20 min to your commute.
