Function mom of two

Ms. M only teaches at 8th grade, she would not a student for three years unless the student has been in mathcounts for three years

Ms. M leads all the math teams in tpms. The math teams including students from 6th- 8th grade. Shortly after school begins, kids who love math will stay in school after bell to work on math sheet for a few weeks. The cut off scores for each grade are different with the lowest score for 6th graders. Most of the kids who end up in Function class from tpms are part of the mathteam. Very few kids are in mathcount team but a lots of kids are in other math team.

This is misleading. Just because a kid loves math and does well, doesn't mean they will be on mathcounts. it's its own thing that many kids prep for. My functions kid was not on mathcounts. Doing fine.

This is not about YOUR kid. I said most of the kids. Not all the kids on the afternoon math club or Math team are on Mathcount team. My DC was there every wendesday afternoon but never made it to the mathcount team. DC and kids like him know Ms. M for three years.

I am going to throw a fact out that perhaps people don't know. It wasn't that long ago that TPMS actually taught Magnet Alg 2 (Manchester taught the Geometry & the Alg 2) and then a little over 1/3 of those Magnet Alg 2 kids went into Functions at Blair, where then a bunch dropped it, and the rest went into Mag PreCal. That was the way it was, and those kids all had Alg 2. Now back then it was a different, harder teacher teaching Funtions but A) it wasn't that long ago and B) that hard teacher is still there so you have him at some point irregardless and may be less prepared. Just something to think about.
