| Depression. Who sleeps for 4 hours late afternoon before bed? |
. I would if I could. Teaching and single parenting is tiring! |
You mean after a long day at school (or work)??? Plenty of normal, tired people. |
I have a Kid at TJ, so I know several going on fewer than 6 hours of sleep a night— including mine. It can be done and is being done in FCPS. Does not make it normal or healthy though. And my kid, at least does a lot of catchup on breaks. Your kids body knows how much sleep it needs. If he takes ADHD meds, tap to his Md if you are concerned. |
| I still remember my mother dragging me to the doctor in high school. He told her, "Some people just need more sleep." Then she told me I wouldn't be able to nap in college. Ha! I got up for my 8AM class, went to class, came back and napped until my 1PM class. |
I did this too! One year I had classes at 9am and 3pm and I loooooved my nap in between. |
+1 |
| Please let the kids sleep...their body tells them...dont be this smart ass mommy all for discipline. Please be a nurturing parent. |
| On weekends and when there’s no school my teen sleeps in until 11 or 12. And then sometimes takes 2-4 hour naps in the afternoon. |
|
Let kids be kids...come on...they are just teenagers. Their body is still growing and sleep is the best to accommodate that. This is what I hate about American culture, like you have every formula as to how a person of a certain age should behave...get a grip morons...and let kids be kids.
....they have have to face lots of morons like you guys in future |

"Who sleeps for 4 hours late afternoon before bed? "
Everyone who needs 10 hours of sleep but only gets 8 could easily nap for 4 hours in the late afternoon for a week or more before they caught up. Everyone who needs 9 hours of sleep but only gets 7, which might be the OP's son who can't fall asleep right away at 10 pm. If you build up a deficit, you can nap quite a bit for a week or two until you get used to having a nap. Then the naps will get shorter. Like the OP said, she would be ok if he went to sleep at 8 pm to get 10 hours. It sounds like he has tried but doesn't fall asleep around 8. It sounds like when he can fall asleep is related to when his ADHS meds wear off. |
| This exactly. If I could shift the sleeping time back so he can get his homework and studying done, that seems better than taking a nap everyday. I woke him up from today’s nap and he is now studying for midterms. The meds are long gone so who knows how productive this will be. |
