Sidwell Construction

The GDS campus is not mixed use. It is solely a school. The mixed-use part got nixed because the school couldn't properly work support out with the community.

The mixed-use got temporarily nixed by aging NIMBY “OK-Boomers” who love Tenley’s mattress stores more than the prospect of more diverse, younger residents and vibrancy coming to their pretend village in the city. But the mayor has thrown her weight squarely behind more intensive development in Upper NW DC, so let’s hope GDS pushes forward.

Five years is a lot better than Sidwell's current plan of "never". The middle school kids will practice their sports on the new field they are building. As for idling, there won't be any more than there is in the aggregate now between the two campuses - if you want to see real idling, just drive south on Wisconsin Avenue in the morning and look at the block of cars waiting to make a left turn into Sidwell's garage queue.

Wait for Wegman’s to open across the street from Sidwell. Wegman’s is destination retail and the traffic will be horrendous. Sidwell parents will have to line up 10 hours in advance to get in the Sidwell garage.

If Sidwell can’t move forward soon, they should just sell the Wash Home property. It could add needed multi family including affordable housing.

They are moving forward, and, the neighbors would be vehemently opposed to any sort of residential/affordable component there.

So GDS is not community minded enough to listen to the community? How will they enforce the two students to one car rule? How will they avoid backups on River Rd? How will they avoid HS students parking in the neighborhood? Why are they moving their entire campus to a neighborhood for which their boosters show such distain? How will they keep HS from parking illegally in the neigborhood?

GDS is very community minded, as evidenced by this project. What GDS has proposed, as an institution committed to giving back through investment in the community, can be a transformative game changer for Tenley-town. Look at what Penn has done for West Philadelphia or what Harvard is doing in Allston. Although the GDS project is smaller in scale, the principle is much the same. We should celebrate it.

GDS expansion was done with more "Quaker Values" than Sidwell.

Are GDS parents really clueless d-bags or does it just seem that way on DCUM?

How do you know these are GDS parents posting? Myself, I'm just calling balls and strikes as a community member with no affiliation to either school (but an appreciation to GDS for getting more cars off the road).

Because no one cares about GDS other than GDS parents. No one.

I don't care about GDS or Sidwell, but I do care about GDS and Sidwell's transportation plans.

And GDS has a better one, period.
