You’re the one in a bubble. |
Actually, being anti-Israel is anti-Semitic. Being pro Palestinian is not anti-Semitic. Criticizing certain policies of the Israeli government isn’t anti-Semitic. Singling Israel out for criticism without criticizing the same or worse behavior of other nations and terrorists is anti-Semitic. I could go on but will save my breath. |
No one said being pro-Palestinian is, on its face, anti-Semitic. |
So have mass shootings and other violence. Like I said I feel less safe generally. I also don't go to a synagogue regularly so fully aware that I am not taking that particular risk so am less exposed to attacks than those more observant. I guess more relevant to the OP - how many violent antisemitic attacks have there been on college campuses? I don't know the answer to that - has that also gone up? |
| I just read a book called Hate about French anti-Antisemitism. I think it is applicable to US on both on the right and the left. |
Actually violence has gone down. Anti-Semitic attacks on college campuses have gone up. |
If a black parent came here asking about racism, would you also advise the black parent that their child should go to a school with a larger black population? |
There’s also this book that discusses anti-semitism on the right and left in the US, including on college campuses: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/09/10/books/review/how-to-fight-anti-semitism-bari-weiss.amp.html |
This is exactly it. No one would do that. But it’s acceptable to say things to Jews that no one would say to other groups. We are the victims of over half the hate crimes in the US, and yet people feel like it’s fine to minimize our experiences or basically say “go be with your own.” |
Op here. Here's a link to an article from Inside Higher Ed from last year that talks about how there's been a surge of anti-Semitism on campuses: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2018/12/05/anti-semitic-incidents-surge-college-campuses-after-pittsburgh-synagogue-shooting and another link to an article that talks about a report released recently that refers to Columbia University and its sister school, Barnard College, in New York City as “a hotbed for hate,” documenting “systemic anti-Semitism and an ingrained delegitimization of Israel” at the schools. But, these schools are just emblematic of the issues. They are more widespread than this as noted by the first article. |
Plenty of people on this board would tell them (I) it doesn't exist, (ii) this is just PC nonsense, (iii) all reported incidents are just hoaxes, and (iv) their kids don't deserve to be there anyway. |
+100. My feelings exactly. Many groups (e.g. Muslims) have it much worse in the US than us Jews. |
Jews are the victims of more than half the hate crimes in the US, more than any other single group. This isn’t an olympics or suffering, but don’t minimize our experiences. |
Really? I’ve been on this board for a long time and have never seen that. I have seen lots of people minimizing what Jews go through, though. We apparently aren’t allowed to talk about being targeted because we tend to be middle class. |
