Exhibit A in "sometimes DCPS does the right thing when parents speak up." 2016 in NW. Maybe it was overreaction, but I'd rather a school put kids first. "D.C. police said they have found no record that anyone — including parents or school officials — made a complaint to law enforcement. Michelle Lerner, the school system spokeswoman, said the letters were sent because “we take safety very seriously” and want to protect students “while they are in our care.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/dc-schools-warn-of-attempted-abductions-police-say-no-complaints-have-been-filed/2016/03/17/a18cc230-ec83-11e5-bc08-3e03a5b41910_story.html |
With what money? |
DCPS already has extended day at some schools. It comes out of the school system's budget. Another way to pay for things is PTA or philanthropic donations. |
| There is no one checking IDs at my child’s school on parent teacher conference day. |
Mine either, but there were no kids in attendance on parent-teacher conference day, either. |
No way are philanthropists going to pay for after care services, and even if one did have an interest they'd only do it for a short time to 'prove a model' or whatever and assume taxpayers will pick up the ongoing cost. |
| DME and the Charter board are promising to look into this - what are the odds they never share out what they discover? |
