The above is true but Catholics like any excuse to have fun and party. |
Catholics are also really happy to incorporate and adapt pagan rituals. That’s how we got basically all our parties and rituals, except the ones we took from the Jews. It’s called Syncretism and it’s one of my favorite things about being Catholic....your people has a cool custom or fun party? You don’t hs e to give it up to convert! We’ll just sub in our saints for your spirits, our Mother of God for your Nature Mother! It’s like a giant religious melting pot. It’s the kimchi tacos version of religious practice. |
I'd prefer to call it inculturation rather than syncretism. My other favorite Catholic-inspired goofy holiday - Groundhog Day! |
This is dumb - so glad I don't live in MoCo. I mean, it's just Halloween. I can understand why there's not a Christmas celebration, but Halloween? Is it really a "celebration" of anything? Admittedly, it's not well-known in other parts of the world, but neither is Thanksgiving (with all due respect to Canada). |
I'm this poster - following up the the post about All Hallow's Eve. I'm Catholic, my husband is Catholic, my kid went to Catholic school. I have never once in my 47 years ever heard anyone treat Halloween as a religious holiday or celebration despite what some Bishop in Tulsa sent out (which doesn't really go into the roots of All Hallow's Eve).

| I miss preschool. That’s when my kids got to do all of that fun stuff. |
| I wish they'd ban all religious holidays, but in our county, we have 123456 different religious holidays already. Pretty soon kids will get the day off for Halloween too. |
