Subaru: Am I missing something?

I'm interested in the Subaru, though. Are there electric ones?

Toyotas are not as reliable as they used to be. As far as AWD, Subaru has the best technology. If you are looking for a hybrid AWD, then yes, Toyota would be good.

No all electric subarus. Crosstrek 2020 is the first hybrid. Subarus strength is in the AWD and performance technology. Their interior is lackluster, but if you don't care that much abou the bells and whistles and interior cool factor, Subarus are great. Great performance.

Outback just came out with a turbo. Regular gas, too, not premium. I was tempted to get one, but it's a bit too big for my needs. I was really bummed.

I had a 2005 Camry that was a lemon the day after the warranty ran out. Power train pinhole leaks, A/C breaking down, motor mounts broken, suspension for crap, etc. (primarily only driven in Arlington at approx 35 mph for most of its life and only had 10k miles on it per year with a few big trips). So far, 6 years on my Mazda CX-9 with nary a problem. (knocking on wood now....).

So... what about Lexus? Is it a good buy, with the Toyota reliability, or do the bells and whistles make it too expensive for what it is?

It’s an expensive Toyota. I’d rather just have the Toyota. Same car.

To be fair, a Lexus has a significantly quieter ride and interior luxuries than your standard Toyota. My MIL’s RX350 is like riding on a silent pillow - you hear and feel nothing, great for napping on long road trips.

I love mine, and a lot of parents my age with little kids have them - that's like half of our preschool.

I don’t agree with this—I feel like value is one reason I keep returning to Subaru as an option! AWD is standard—by the time I add that and price out a Toyota or Honda, I’m around $40k. Subaru’s are always mid to low 30s.

They don't make RAV4s without AWD.

Oh, but they do. At least according to Toyota.

I stand corrected. The lowest trim version of the LE is available as an option without AWD. Every other model and trim has AWD standard. And those models/trims with AWD standard start at $27,050 MSRP.

PP's comment about AWD pushing a Toyota to $40k is still nonsense.

Test drove a 2019 and 2020 outback yesterday. As a propr Subaru owner, I was a little disappointed: the interiors felt so cheapy and rinky-dink. I know it's not a luxury car but boy, it just felt so budget. Also, what is with all the brown? "Cinnamon" or "java," whatever you want to call it, who wants a brown car or a brown pleather interior??

My mechanic and the sales guy told me to get the CRV instead of the Forrester. Better car and cheaper, and since I drive my cars until they're dead, the Honda was the way to go. The CRV has no personality and is just kind of blah to me, but it drives nicely and does the job.

You cannot go wrong w Subaru, or for that matter, Honda or Toyota.

Signed happy Subaru owner

What are you basing this on? I'm basing it on the fact that I've owned 4 Subarus.

And on the fact that if you Google 'Subaru gasket issues' you get a ton of hits.

Subuarus are very popular where we live and everyone we know has had gasket issues. But, they still love them and keep buying them.

I love the brown!

My mom loves Subarus. Always in the shop.

Never had a single problem with my CRV.

Has anyone looked at the Subaru safety rating? I'm leasing a Subaru for myself and letting my newly licensed DS use it. Why?

These 30 vehicles are the safest 2019 models, car-safety group IIHS says
The 2019 Genesis G80
The 2018 Genesis G90
The 2019 Subaru Outback
The 2019 Subaru Legacy
The 2019 Subaru Ascent.
The 2019 Subaru Impreza wagon
The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek
The 2019 Subaru Impreza 4-door sedan

Come on.

My Outback is six years old, and I've never had to pay for anything that wasn't scheduled maintenance. I'd be happy to concede that Hondas have even fewer problems (I don't know if it's true, but I'm not Consumer Reports; if you say it's true, I find that entirely plausible).

But "always in the shop"? WTF is your mother doing to her cars?
