From Catholic To Methodist

as A lifelong Methodist I’d say definitely join if you feel at home there. This whole thread reminds me of what my dad, a minister, would always tell me. Religion is humankind’s response to God. Since it is human “made” it’s not going to be perfect. Yes, there are elements we consider sacred but it’s still fallible humans trying to understand God. We get so focused on doctrine that we miss the whole point —to love God and to love one another. Amazing how complicated we make it. If youve found a congregation that helps you deepen your relationship with God and encourages you to do good in the world, then you’ve found your church.

OP here. I did not realize that people were still posting on this thread. Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences even the pious Catholic who stalks DCUM

I will give you an update. Since my first initial inquiry and post I have decided to join the Methodist church. It has been a wonderful transformation. My family and I are happier. My children absolutely love the youth programs. They look forward into going to church. Before church seemed like a chore or a cultural obligation. Honestly, my husband and I keep asking ourselves, "Why didn't we leave the Catholic faith sooner?" The interesting thing is that I have encountered so many former Catholics at my new church. So, I have a support system of like minded souls who understand me. I feel like I have always belong at this church. It definitely feels like home to me.
