Not PP, but it's very practical advice (advice I gave my own kid, a freshman trying out different subjects, and surprise, no longer pining for a studio art major). Headed into a recession, flexibility from a variety of skill sets will be useful. It doesn't mean my kid will never use what she's learned so far, and she still wants to take more art courses, but she's discovered there's a whole world of subjects out there that she never would have imagined that she likes. Writing, of all things. Even finds accounting kind of interesting. And on and on. There is no recession-proof major, but the limited nature of a single-field school is inherently more risky. |
