Thanks, Obama!

OP here, can you share how much you pay and what is her schedule? I am considering at all my options. Thanks |
I guess if you don't like something at your public school the only option is to go private? Seriously guys it ok to ask for "better" options!

Providing aftercare is an extra service. Schools are NOT required to offer it at all. So, go private, or enter the lottery for another school that has aftercare that suits your needs. |
I know of another camp that has similar fee structure. This is not unique. |
| TR's Springboard aftercare offers a bridge hour from when 3:30 to 4:30 PM. Normal aftercare goes until 6 PM. I cannot remember the cost difference offhand, but this does exist. |
| Maret used to offer a 5pm and a 6pm pick up plan, and release a few employees early. It was a pretty good system, employees were paid for the whole time, and they made absolute bank off parents who picked up at 5:10pm consistently. |
So better options at a public school aftercare program that's created to serve as many parents as possible is to simply ask for the school to customize it to your needs? That's literally why people opt for private or a nanny share. I get that this annoying for her, but these fumes of entitlement. |
You forget that other schools do provide those options, so yeah this doesn't sound like a crazy request to me. |

OP here. I was reading a different thread and someone mentioned Janney aftercare program where you only paid what you use, this would be a great alternative for me. Do many aftercare programs do this or is Janney an outlier.
I have to say I am really impressed by their price break down but you really only paid for what you need, check it out: https://www.janneyschool.org/janneyplus/jac/ For example I work 2 days from home and will be happy to pay for the other 3 days but not for the whole week or pay the crazy drop in rate! |
You still pay for the entire day you use; it’s not charged by the hour. This is also a parent-run non profit org, so no overhead going to for profit companies. |
That is why I said an alternative. Also the have late pickup fee, which means normal care stop at 6, after 630pm you pay extra. My aftercare charges everyone till 630pm. Also good to know that parents run this! |
Exactly. Our aftercare provider (Wonders) also lets you do a part-time schedule so that you go only certain days of the week, but you have to pay for the whole day. |
Great OP - you should definitely go to Janney then. |
| I am in the same situation. I am a teacher at another district and can make it to my kids buildings by 4:10 but pay for the entire aftercare (6:45) slot. I get it though, for all the reasons stated. So 4 times a week I head to the JCC and workout for an hour. Figure I am paying for it. I also really enjoy the post workout shower. Alone, can use lots of hot water, I blow dry my hair in peace, etc etc. Then I can head to bed rather quickly after my kids are down because Im all washed up already. Can you think of something to do for yourself with the time? |
