What makes you glad you live in D.C.?

I do enjoy being a city with educated women who have lives outside of being a mom/wife. And no, I do not care if you stay at home or work outside of the home, but I appreciate having interesting women to be friends with and chat with.

I am from the midwest. A lot of wives/moms swap their identities by the time the first kid comes along.

I hardly ever need to drive on a Beltway, Pike, or Parkway.

I see trees and sky and beautiful gardens a lot and yet have no yard to take care of.

I love having all of the museums and galleries a short metro ride away. Plus all of the events that happen here and having so many different music venues. Not to mention having access to some great shows at the Kennedy Center and other theaters in the area.

It's easy to forget that not everyone grows up where they can catch a train and spend a Saturday exploring an art gallery. Or not have to buy tickets to the concert they want to see plus spend money to travel to that location and often book a hotel. Plus, I can catch Amtrak and spend the weekend exploring Philly, Boston, or NYC and be there in under 3 hours for all.

Nice mix of transients and lifetime residents.
People not too uppity and trendy and antisocial not too modest and unstylish and extra neighborly.

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHA Where the HELL is this? Do tell!

I was going to facetiously add "the people" and they bubbly personalities, their friendliness, open mindedness, and the fact that they walk around happy to be alive. Add to that, their worldliness and willingness to accept differences, their top of the top accomplishments, only from the top schools in the world, and their humility. But since I have met none of that in 30 years, I guess not.

Sounds like you need to get out and about more.

Actually, much, much less!

And we always have old friends come visit once their kids are old enough for the museums and monuments. It would be hard to lure busy families to the small town where I grew up.

Everyone raving about your kids' schools - where do they go to school?

So much to do and see especially with kids
I love watching shows that feature DC and I can say, "I live there"

I love watching DC shows and pissing on the bad timing. Like how were you just in Friendship Heights and two minutes later you're in Rosslyn?? Looking at you Homeland!!!

I just got back from a trip to LA (where I used to live) and am very glad to be home. I love that I don't have to drive to work and my teens can get around on their own to most of their activities, I love how green it is and the lack of billboards. And, the traffic here is not as bad as LA.

Or Jack Ryan's absurd bike ride from the Potomac Boat Club out to Langley the long, long way around!

Three major airports within an hour of my house, so I can go pretty much anywhere in the world fairly easily.

Cuisine of any kind - my kids are growing up eating great sushi, indian, ethiopian...

The ability to have a yard and trees and space to run in, and still have a commute well under an hour in a big city.

The diverse and well-educated population.

The variety of seasons.

This. The height limit is probably one of my very favorite things about this city.

Oddly enough, I love being with people who aren't in the rat race. I feel like people who make the decision to raise their kids in the actual District (not MD or VA) are more chill in general. At least all the parents I meet are that way.
