The company had been around for a while. Apply common sense and logic to this situation, no one noticed because there was nothing to notice.
If you look hard enough at anything with the suggestion of impropriety, you can find an issue

It’s absolutely meant to be a dog whistle. This thread dates from the Trumpenvolk years, and I know the trash brand OP is talking about predates that, but come the eff on. That logo is intentionally winking at both the tacky but inoffensive Southern tradition of monogramming everything that will stand still long enough and the unforgivable Nazis.
