If you come back to this thread, could you please post more about your DD's experience? DS is a rising senior and has strong math and science (obviously for a HS student, so it's not like he's ready for quantum computations or anything) and applied to NASA Goddard for HS positions, but it's just a complete black box to us as to when (if ever) he might hear anything, what he could do to set himself up for future interns as an intended physics major, etc. Thank you for any insights you're willing to share!

Haven't read through the thread, but has she considered banking (becoming a teller)? This was my first job at age 16 - I wasn't a teller, I worked in operations, but bank tellers are especially needed during summer when employees want to go on vacation, etc. Lots of room for advancement and growth as well.

I would babysit. It's the most lucrative of jobs you can have as a teen. She can spend this summer figuring out what she might want her career to be and then go that route next summer.
