DOR ladies: If you could choose, money no object-- Shady Grove, Dominion, or CCRM?

(To the lady that got pregnant by Dr Eric Widra from Shady Grove in her 40’s). How long did it take? I’m about to start IVF treatment right now with Dr. Widra. I’m 42 years old, and I’m concerned about my egg quality. My amh is 1.14, FSH 12.8, AFC 11. You guys give me hope.

Well I didn't get pregnant by Eric Widra!

I did multiple cycles because I banked embryos too, although I didn't end up using them. He will be straightforward and candid based on your tests and other health conditions. I transferred on Day 3, and I decided to transfer the maximum number of embryos allowed under the SART or ASRM guidelines for my then age group (41-2). My sense is that it is a numbers game and you should do as many cycles as you can physically, mentally, and financially for the next several months. He can provide advice about specific things that might be better for you.

Did you decide to get treatment elsewhere/were you successful somewhere else? In terms of specific advice - What are some examples?

No, sorry, I did get pregnant while he was my dr. I was just amused because of the wording.

I hope you have a lot of support, and even a counselor to help you. It must be especially hard for you, given what you have gone through already.

I'm sure he discussed that the odds decline at age 42. The difference in success rates between 41 and 42 is large. That is why I was saying it's a numbers game.

When I referred to "specific advice," I was just referring to the fact that I had specific health issues that other patients do not have. So he received information from other doctors about those issues, checked on a few things, and discussed different options with me. I was also overweight and lost a lot of weight and exercised a lot that year I was cycling, both of which I am sure helped a lot, especially with the pregnancy. He never made a big deal about any of that, even though it was clearly helpful to do.

This is something that I have struggled with, so I'm not in a position to give advice about this, but I hope that you will keep your mind open to a lot of different possibilities for having children and for your future in general. After your cycling this year, you can assess how it's going and maybe at some point you will be open to other options, including donor egg and now Shady Grove offers donor embryo.

just to recap... you went to Widra and banked but didnt use the embryos... and then you got pregnant elsewhere? (with OE?)

I am not sure if this is referring to my post. I just turned 41 when I cycled. I had similar numbers to you (slightly lower AMH and FSH and higher AFC- ranged between 12 and 22). We had severe male factor infertility. I ended up with five normal PGS tested embryos. My second FET led to my healthy son.
Widra will tell you - as he told me- that he won't know your egg quality until after the first cycle. Widra will be very direct- and tell you the good and bad.

Re. 9:16 - I wrote above about Dr. Widra. I did get pregnant while cycling with him. I did multiple cycles but due to some medical and other issues that came up in the process, I banked embryos a couple times. The final cycle where I transferred, I did it on Day 3 and transferred the maximum number under the guidelines. I'm thankful I worked with him and he was willing to do that because I don't think every RE would have done that. And my current DC was in that group of Day 3 embryos and might not have been born if I hadn't transferred that many together. I overthink everything, but that's how I think about it.

I ran into her during monitoring and egg retrieval, she's not very talkative and it could come off as dismissive when I ask a question expecting a long answer. I know enough to know that most of my questions are less of a inquiry but seeking reassurance, and I still prefer a doctor can talk a bit more so that I get the context of where I was.
