FCPS Lice Policy

Eye roll. Lice are no different from any other germ you catch and pass on. I know lice are not a "germ" but same concept. You wouldn't shame people for having a cold would you? And yet they probably touched their face with dirty hands.

I have no idea if this is true, but so many elementary schools have tiny coat closets where all the coats and backpacks are crammed together, as well as stuff dumped in piles in the hall when they are in specials, etc, that the lice don’t need to do anything but crawl from one kid’s stuff to another.

This is the care at DDs school. It irritates me because many things can be passed this way. DD has had lice twice this year.

Pre-emptively combing once a week in the shower or bath should be standard procedure for ALL elementary kids. My kid can do her own pre emptive combing now.

My neighbor's kid was over here one day(different neighbor). Mom called to tell me next day to tell me she had lice (not from my house.) I bagged up everything she was around. We never had a problem with them here.

It’s a myth that you have to bag everything. They can’t love for long outside the human head. I thought this too and learned a lot when my DD got them. You only have to comb. It was recommended to us that we do it daily for two weeks.

Yeah, but when it comes down to it, you learn quick who the lazy moms are!

My kids are 6 and 9 and neither has ever had lice. No, I'm not going to pre-emptively comb their hair for lice every week for years.

1. Lice cannot jump
2. Most lice off of a human head are dying or dead lice.
3. Bagging stuff is a waste of time and doesn't accomplish anything
4. Combing is a pain in the ass but it is the best way to prevent a major infestation on your head
5.lice are increasingly drug-resistant so a thorough coming, usually about 2 hours, is the best method of treatment.
6. most people will rely on the creams or the prescription shampoo, and then will be surprised when they are reinfected and blame people at school or whatever instead of realizing that you need to come because they are just becoming resistant to the pesticides
