This woman seated between two obese people is awful but so are they for not buying the extra seat.

I would have pushed the overhead button, and in my nicest voice said to the FA, "I'm so sorry, but I'm not going to be able to sit here for four hours. Are there any other seats available on the plane? Or perhaps a small person who might be able to fit in this seat?" you don't have to say out loud "I eat salad". It's obvious what the problem is.

I flew on a 2.5 hr flight with two huge people (that needed seat belt extenders) completely plastered against the window. I had passengers giving me a hand to move since I was stuck in that position for so long (I am petite). I got a full refund for that flight.

You didn't get a refund. Stop lying, drama queen.

They really need to purchase three seats if they each cannot fit in a single seat.

I saw this recently on a flight where an older couple had a huge "therapy dog" on the flight. They purchased the window and aisle seat. Meanwhile a poor guy was stuck in the middle seat with their huge dog sitting on his feet on the floor across the floor. The flight attendants were less than helpful.

It's awful and rude.

+ a million.

That couple should be forbidden to fly unless they buy an extra seat

How do you know the woman didn't do that BEFORE the video starts?
We are only seeing what the two obese passengers CHOSE to share.

Sometimes I think this country is full of assholes. Who treats people like this? Obese or not. Is it inconvenient, yeah. But to shame people. Her shaming the obese passengers or people videoing it. It's all shameful.

I've tried that. Most flights are fully booked and they will tell you that. The woman had a right to the seat she purchased. If you need a seatbelt extension for obesity then you need an extra seat or wait until there is a seat left over.

It's not shameful, it's fact. I'm all for not putting forth unrealistic body images, etc., but come on. These two are obese. They are unhealthy. We should not be supporting their lifestyle.

And they're a-holes for booking a window and aisle seat. They knew they needed more than one seat and didn't want to pay the money for it. So they KNEW their obesity would be physically uncomfortable for another human being. That's the only thing shameful thing about this whole episode.

Was the woman rude? Yes.

Would I be pissed seated between two 300-pound individuals for a 4-hour flight? Absolutely.

The couple should have booked themselves first class.

I know so many people who do this and take this gamble. The other woman was super rude though, it was not the way to handle it.

You hit the nail on the head. Maybe there should be some way for airlines to ask for the weight and dimensions of passengers like they do for suitcases. Or even have plexiglass sides that can be pulled up on the side of each seat. That way the grossly overweight people can sqiush themselves up in their sardine cans.

Business class is basically the plexiglass sides anyway.

Only on international flights. There are very few 3 class domestic planes and first class on most domestic flights is just wider seats, not the dividers like on international flights.

Exactly.

I completely agree with her, but not with the way she handled it. To sit for 4+ hours squished between two people....I couldn't do it.

She didn't handle it correctly, but damn I would be pissed too. I can't imagine sitting in half a seat for the entire flight squished by these to obese people. Airlines need to have size restrictions. If you can't fit in the sea then you need to by two. They shouldn't even offer seat belt extenders unless you purchase an extra seat.

The couple started this whole drama by purposefully buying the window and aisle seat, knowing they needed the extra room.

Their bad.

Lady was rude. I wouldn't have been that way, but i avoid confrontation like the plague. I don't blame her for having that reaction.
