are you talking about Miami U of Ohio? Acceptance rate is 70% and you only need a 25-30 ACT

Yeah, not really sure what that person is talking about. Good school but we see several admits from our HS every year and never the exceptional students.

Do you all ever get sick of bitching about everything? So its not a school for "exceptional" students. Its a great school with plenty of opportunities for those who want them. Your obsessive posts about scores and admission rates are pathetic. There are other qualities in schools that are important, and to some of our kids carry more weight than those numbers. This is more about which bumper sticker mommy can place on her car rather than an objective discussion about this school as well as many others.

WTF? I was answering the poster who said Miami U is now "impossible to get into." I pointed out that it has about a 70% admit rate, so hardly impossible to get into. I can't for the life of me see how that amounts to "bitching about everything."

No shit. What a dope. I wrote the several admits comment and it isn’t bitching. I like the school a ton, actually, and it’s on my son’s list. But just isn’t anywhere near “impossible”. Relax, dude. Nobody’s attacking Miami.

Students who are outliners -not Greek, will be foreign students, non traditional students, 5th yr students, students doing study abroad and gone, Freshmen who haven't decided yet, other arty/theatre types or just independent types, others who prefer to not be as social.

A student needs to be open to going Greek before considering this school.

UVA is 24% frats and 28% sororities.

Miami is 19% frats and 29% sororities. Alos, can not join during first semester.

I think greek life is absolutely disgusting and should be abolished. Having said that, I know at least three very very smart people who went to Miami University (assuming it's the one in Ohio that's being discussed).

Child goes to Miami.
Relatively close to DC.
Beautiful campus
Excellent undergraduate education
Good opportunities on graduation.
Not huge.
Not diverse (unless you think of the Chinese students driving BMWs as diversity).
Looming frat/sorority presence.
Drinking in abundance in town
Public ivy moniker doesn't mean anything.

I don't think UVA has ever been rated for undergraduate teaching in USNWR.

Incorrect. William and Mary is ranked #5 and UVA is #24.

I stand corrected. I think I've always seen the cut off lists.

So a #3 ranking for Miami is pretty impressive as it puts Miami in company with Princeton, Dartmouth, William & Mary, Brown, Stanford, Rice, and Duke in the top 10. There are a couple of surprises/anomalies in there as well in Georgia State and University of Maryland Baltimore County.

A lot of universities focus more on graduate education and research, so a focus on undergraduate teaching is pretty rare and a plus.

Why are people on this forum so awful-- not every kid is an Ivy Leaguer-- lots of bright kids go to non-top 50 schools. Be kind-- plenty of great kids go to schools like this and succeed.

So it's a safety school. Every kid I've known who has gone there has been bright, personable, all-around good kids.

Can't be...the admit rate is too high. Must be a school for losers, right?

In today's market - yes a big sign of trouble. It is for rich kids who are average or below students. They still have the means to do well even though they aren't that smart.

None of what you are saying is remotely even true.
Average GPA for incoming freshman: 3.78
25th percentile SAT: 1200
75th percentile SAT: 1380

jesus those scores are low. That's uacceptable for a private school that doesn't have a mission to take in a certain percentage of in-state dregs like large state schools do.

How can a private school be viable with those scores?

Green eyes. Also, the public schools here have such hyper-inflated GPA's that they sometimes forget the schools recalculate on a 4.0 scale.

Miami University is not a private school. It is a public school.
