No shit. What a dope. I wrote the several admits comment and it isn’t bitching. I like the school a ton, actually, and it’s on my son’s list. But just isn’t anywhere near “impossible”. Relax, dude. Nobody’s attacking Miami. |
UVA is 24% frats and 28% sororities. |
Miami is 19% frats and 29% sororities. Alos, can not join during first semester. |
I think greek life is absolutely disgusting and should be abolished. Having said that, I know at least three very very smart people who went to Miami University (assuming it's the one in Ohio that's being discussed). |

Child goes to Miami.
Relatively close to DC. Beautiful campus Excellent undergraduate education Good opportunities on graduation. Not huge. Not diverse (unless you think of the Chinese students driving BMWs as diversity). Looming frat/sorority presence. Drinking in abundance in town Public ivy moniker doesn't mean anything. |
I don't think UVA has ever been rated for undergraduate teaching in USNWR. |
Incorrect. William and Mary is ranked #5 and UVA is #24. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/undergraduate-teaching |
I stand corrected. I think I've always seen the cut off lists. |
So a #3 ranking for Miami is pretty impressive as it puts Miami in company with Princeton, Dartmouth, William & Mary, Brown, Stanford, Rice, and Duke in the top 10. There are a couple of surprises/anomalies in there as well in Georgia State and University of Maryland Baltimore County. A lot of universities focus more on graduate education and research, so a focus on undergraduate teaching is pretty rare and a plus. |
Why are people on this forum so awful-- not every kid is an Ivy Leaguer-- lots of bright kids go to non-top 50 schools. Be kind-- plenty of great kids go to schools like this and succeed.

jesus those scores are low. That's uacceptable for a private school that doesn't have a mission to take in a certain percentage of in-state dregs like large state schools do. How can a private school be viable with those scores? |
How can someone be this dumb? |
| Green eyes. Also, the public schools here have such hyper-inflated GPA's that they sometimes forget the schools recalculate on a 4.0 scale. |
Miami University is not a private school. It is a public school. |
Are you for real? |
