what car should I look at? (small SUV)

I just went though this same exercise with my wife.

The Honda CRV is by far the best vehicle in this class. Really not even close. If you can find a 2018 still on a lot, you should be able to get a new EX for $25 before tax and title.

Ignore the comments about the oil/gas issue. It's a fraction of a fraction of a percent of affected cars and nearly entirely in extremely cold climates.

We wound up getting an Acura RDX (which is our primary car and more than you want to spend). Our second choice was the Mazda CX-5. It had a lot of features for the price and we preferred it to the other small suvs we tried.

We got our new Honda CRV for about 25K; it's a fantastic car for the money.

Driving a 12 year old RAV4 and when if goes- if ever- will definitely buy another one. Great car and very, very reliable!
