What about principles? i would not vote for someone who advocated torture whether it was legal or not.

the problem is dunking a bunch of people in water on the assumption that they'll tell you something about a bomb hidden downtown. Then the ones who know nothing about it are being tortured for nothing. You think their lives are just byproducts of protecting your daughter? That's not the way civilized societies behave but I understand that you have a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude. Personally I wouldn't want terrorists to form my sense of right and wrong.

True. And if they don't know anything about a bomb downtown, they'll sure as hell make it up! Then the authorities will waste their time chasing down false leads and your daughter will get blown up anyway!

I think my daughter is safer in a country where we don't torture people.

even the Wash Post has admitted that the interrogation of these terrorists provided extremely helpful intelligence.

Except for the times they reported that it didn't.

I read in the Post several years ago that tactics like sleep deprivation made people confess 95 percent of the time but almost all of the confessions were false. This was information gleaned by the wonderful men and women who ran the former Soviet Union.
