LOL, no. |
Sorry Westover. You are close to plenty of good schools, the needs are to the east. |
Why is this not reasonable? |
| Immersion will go where they can get 50% native and that isn't Tuckahoe, Reed or Nottingham. Immersion will be just south of 50 and then the cascade happens. Reed takes a lot of McK, McK takes Ashlawn & Ashlawn, being closest to 50 crossed the line of demarcation. |
Agreed. I expect Barrett, Barcroft or Carlin Springs. |
Are you new here? |
Bing, bing bing. This is the winner. This is what they are planning. They will use Reed to start moving boundaries south. The funny part of it (depending on who you ask) is that all those families who think they are walking to Reed may not end up on in its boundary at all. They will likely stay at Tuckahoe or go to Nottingham. Both by bus. . Reed's boundary won't end up going more than a few blocks further north or west than the school itself so that the boundaries can shift. Ashlawn will take Carlin Springs, McKinley will take Ashlawn, Reed will take far more McKinley than anyone realizes right now. Because I PROMISE you, they are not moving Immersion north and they NOT moving ATS. |
I thought the new SoArl boundaries left schools at capacity so no south swap possibilities? |
Ashlawn boundaries can go south of 50. |
| I do think that a lot of families were counting on APS making Nottingham or Tuckahoe option so that they could go to Reed. Not gonna happen. And then they are going to end up at Nottingham or Tuckahoe. Karma. |
| The only school due karma is .5%FRL moral cohesion Tuckahoe. |
| Yeah. I think if you're watching the S. Arl boundary fiasco you can see the writing on the wall. They are going to be doing something to address Barcroft and Carlin Springs, they've said so. The only option is to go north. They can't go east and they are up against the western border. So yeah. Most of Reed will be filled from S of Wash Blvd or from the East (Glebe). Not so much from the West and North. When you build seats where you don't need them, you can't make everyone walkable. They are learning that with Henry and Drew. The next lesson will be Reed. |
I think there is some truth in this. They can't have Nottingham, Tuckahoe, and Reed all neighborhood schools. Nottingham has 500 students, Tuckahoe has 517. Nottingham's capacity is 513, Tuckahoe is 545. These two schools simply don't need capacity relief. Reed is in the Tuckahoe boundary, and a portion of the Reed walk zone is currently zoned to Nottingham. A chunk of Mckinley is walkable to Reed too- McKinley is sitting at 788 with a capacity of 684. But quite honestly- the McKinley overcrowding could be dealt with by fixing the mistake they made when they rezoned a chunk of Westover to McKinley away from Nottingham/Tuckahoe. If they send all the walkers to Reed- e.g. the expanded walk zone - I honestly don't see how they can fill Tuckahoe without drawing a boundary through Nottingham's walk zone. Really- they would have to abandon continguity, say walking is sacred, but proximity is worthless- and bus kids from the Clarendon area (where the need for capacity is) past Glebe, past Nottingham, past Reed- to Tuckahoe. This seems really unlikely. |
Key and ASFS both become neighborhood, immersion to ATS, ATS to Nottingham. |
Yay, another ASFS/Key freak out.
