I would think it’s awesome.
I was 11/12 when older boys and men started hitting on me. It’s annoying as hell to be objectified, and for a child to suddenly be evaluated based on her looks and how she matches up to some sort of sexy ideal is scary and disorienting. Shaving ones head is a quick way to shut some of that down. Then you feel like life is more about the “being” than the “appearing.” |

Love the girls who shave their heads. They are so confident in themselves. I work in a school and have had several students who did this. I was not that self assured in middle school.
Good for them! I lived in europe for many years and there is a whole style of dress that goes with neo nazis. Girls with just shaved heads don't remind me of neo nazis at all. |
Sweetie, I can pretty much guarantee that girl has done more in her short life to make this world a better place than you ever will. |
| I assume dd's friend is a badass who doesn't care what anyone thinks and parents who deal with it. Wish I had a friend like that in school! |
She's Cuban-American! The Cuban flag represents Cubanidad - a sense of pride in the land, in the people and food of Cuba. Her dad was born in Cuba. It is very likely she still has relatives there. |
| One of the tweens who trick or treated with DD has a shaved head. She went as Eleven. Their social circle is all LGBTQ or quirky kids so no one thought she was weird. She has a well-shaped skull so that helps. |
I never heard of her until reading this thread now and I'm sure she's a wonderful person. But there is truth in that most of these young SJW girls look exactly like each other. For all their proclaimed individualism and rebellion against the authority and non-conforming, they end up being as conformist as the blond preppy girls. Just in their own way. So when a girl shaves her head as a sign of rebellion or for shock value, she's only typecasting herself, which is ironic, but there you go. |

| I never Heard of her either |
| Question: how many of you “ooh rah rah shaved head is awesome” posters actually have a kid with a shaved head? |
| ^^a girl, that is. Because we all know a shaved head on a boy is completely different than a girl, as much as you wish it wasn’t. |
Why? |
That may be true, but as mentioned upthread, this particular young woman shaved her head in reaction to Florida’s heat and humidity. She felt like she was wearing a sweater on her head. |
Funny you posted this because I just noticed yesterday that the 11 year old daughter of a friend shaved the side of her head leaving the rest of her hair long. She was hanging out with the older girls at an activity and seemed to be the same age as the others even though she's at least 4 years younger. My own DD11 just seems so much more little kid-like. I thought it looked cute and she was obviously confident... just seemed older than 5th grade. |
