My kid went to Math/Sci at TPMS. It was not really hard. Yes, many students were doing a lot more than the program required for various Science, Math and other STEM tournaments and competitions, but the school work itself was just ok. My eldest child had gone to the same program pre- 2.0 and it was hard then. Both my children also took Spanish for all three years in MS and they did not find it hard. I made sure that they were using a textbook at home for FL though and that they pretty much mastered it.

I've had one kid go through the Hum Magnet and and another the MSCS magnet. Neither found the work hard because it was work appropriate for them. Besides, the middle school magnet classes are only 3 of 7 classes - the non-magnet classes were ridiculously easy for them.

OP - If your child is struggling, be sure to schedule conferences at your school's conferences Nov 12-13. If your child is struggling in many classes, you may be able to schedule a team conference (all teachers+counselor at the same time) - different schools have different processes for handling students struggling in multiple classes. If you don't feel like you got full resolution during those conferences, you can still follow up with individual teachers or the counselor.

7th grader at NBMS - not much homework, but frequent quizzes in Algebra and Spanish require study time at home.

Mine had four major assessments last week and a project due tomorrow, but isn’t complaining about workload. She is more conscious now of GPA and is stressing herself out over having a mix of As and Bs instead of all As. IMHO, it’s respectable when taking two HS level courses at 12, but she feels her peers are doing so much better. I think more homework would just worsen how she feels. She had time today to finish a project and see a movie with friends. That downtime is important to me.

My child who went to Eastern had a ton more work than my child who currently goes to our home middle school.
