The abundance of people that text and drive

If you're moving, then I take issue with that. That's a problem. That's compromising safety.

If you're sitting in traffic, crawling and stopping over and over... that's not driving. That's moving a few feet every minute.

My commute is 3 miles. But traffic is horrendous. It can sometimes take 45'minutes to go THREE miles. I only drive it during bad weather or when I'm going someplace right after work, the est of the time I bike if I'm in a hurry, or I walk.

But I refuse to accept that me texting or doing anything else on my phone is a danger to anyone when I'm sitting in traffic having not moved for four minutes.

These stupid zero tolerance policies are just as dumb as the ones they have for kids in school, where a 14 year old girl gets suspended for "drug possession" because she has Midol.

It's stupid.

I was rear-ended in my car while pregnant by a woman in stop and go traffic you described. Put your effing phone down.

First of all, if you were rear ended, then the traffic was obviously moving at least intermittently. You have a right to be angry about that. I would be too. This isn't what I'm speaking of. My route puts me at several intersections where I don't move AT ALL for 4-6 minutes at a time. It's simply how the lights time out at that level of traffic volume. So I know I'll be siting in one spot, with my engine turned off, btw, for at least four minutes or more. That's when I text or check emails and do other stuff. Not while I'm crawling along, but when I'm stopped and not moving.

If you can't appreciate the difference in those two scenarios, then I'd suggest you're actively not doing so, looking to be angry.

DP. You are a moron who is danger to all of us. How stupid can you really be? You are the first one to see someone moving and zoom and rear end the car in front of us. Bcs you saw the cars move, but paid no attention that they were in the turn lane. You are the one that never goes as the light turns green, because you miss it turning green. You are the one that is pi**ed when people honk at you and then you go as slow as you can and on purpose makes 20 cars not turn or go on green. I can appreciate that you are as stupid and as reckless as it gets. You are too stupid to know that you are stupid and dangerous.

You sound violently psychotic.

You need a 72 hour hold.

I agree.op. so many people think they drive fine while under the influence of technology. Not true. Pps who are justifying it because the lights take long, we'd all probably get through the lights faster if puerile weren't looking at their phones when the lights turn green. And then so many more fender benders from people who don't fully become aware of how traffic is moving before hitting the gas.

Find a good radio station. Download a podcast before you get in the car. Listen to cds or books on tape or whatever. Oh, groundbreaking, learn how to cogitate without external input for the five minutes you have to wait for a light. It's disturbing how no one sits still and thinks anymore. And disgusting how people disregard safe driving practices and in many places the law by being on their phones while on a roadway.

You should be allowed to if your car has crash avoidance. If not then no phones

Let’s write our representatives and get this enforced nationwide. Could be a good revenue generator.

They can make the stop updating if the phone goes over 10 mph, but they will not do that.

So passengers can't use theirs, too? WTF? What about navigation? How's it supposed to update?

If the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem is a nail.... throw your hammer away PP, you're making a mess of things.

Fortunately we don't live in a world where you have autocratic authority.

Eh, I'm in Georgia too. In my area, the law hasn't deterred people at all yet.

Should be punished like a DUI.

+1. And the claim that the engine is off is the supreme certification of her stupidity. A, you really don't, and B, that wastes more gas.

What drives me nuts is how many people post pictures of something while they are obviously driving a car.

So you'd rather go back to the days of holding the steering wheel in one hand and a map in the other, desperately trying to read every street sign you pass? Sorry, I think mobile directions are a real safety improvement over the old ways. One glance and I know whether this is the turn I'm supposed to take. And if I miss it, the phone automatically recalculates a new route. Awesome.

What dire consequences will ensue if passengers can't update their phones while they're in a car?

Also, if that's how you used to drive, then yes, that's unsafe. You shouldn't have done that. Not everybody did.

Technology is advanced enough to know whether you are the driver or the passenger.
