We lived in LA and DC over the past 15 yrs. The schools are hugely superior in DC and while everyone is aspirant, they are also more down to earth. This is obviously due to the political environment and the NIH presence - more lawyers, doctors, etc. Whereas in LA you have a lot of creative people and a ton more money as well sometimes (also the polarity of poverty is more obvious).
I liked having a house with a yard in DC and walking my dog all year round. In LA you're basically in the desert and if you live somewhere big enough for a yard, you're in the hills of some kind and there's coyotes at night / early morning. Part of me loves both places but prefers DC deep down. |
