yes, nice classy 1.6 ct solitaire. doesn't seem large or nor small for our friends or work circle. if he had gotten a significantly smaller thing I would have gone with just a band or bought an engagement ring myself. we each have had decent incomes since out of undergrad, plus save our money and bonuses. certainly holds value more than a depreciating car of similar value. |
LOL! Of course. It goes with the DCUM belief that rich people who appear to have it all are actually living a life of misery behind closed doors. Carry on! |
Or that all wealthy people are driving old beaters, extreme couponers, washing and reusing paper towels and wearing threadbare hand-me-down clothes. |
They're not if you buy a certified diamond from the right place. Mine is actually worth more now than when he bought it. A random ring from a jewelry store that isn't certified isn't worth what you pay for it, for sure. |
| I expected a pretty big ring, for sure over 1 carat (that's not big?!?). My husband surprised me by picking out some 2.5-3 carat diamonds, which we looked at together. I picked my favorite, which wasn't the biggest but was the one I liked the best. I had no idea what they cost but I know now. I'm shocked he spent that much money but he had it and wanted to do it so it was fine with me. |
If you don’t live there now, you sound crazy. Do you have anxiety? |
| I expected a bigger ring because DH told me he was looking at rings that were around 1.5 ct. Then he proposed with the actual ring that was .75 ct. It was hard not to be disappointed when I had a different picture in my mind. We were also very young, quite poor, and he bought it using a payment plan with 0% interest so I ended up contributing to the payments once we got married out of our joint finances. If I had thought through it and realized that was going to happen, I would have insisted on having more input into the ring that I ended up paying for myself. I don't love my ring, but it's fine and despite this terrible anecdote we've been happily married for 16 years. |
| I got a 1.5 carat engagement ring and it's nice but it doesn't seem that big to me...wedding band is .5 carats. |
| I hoped for one but we bought a house instead. It was the right decision though my finger did feel naked. It was also at a time when getting engaged and married was very low key compared to the circus it has become. |
