Private & Independent Schools

Maybe something else was going on here (i.e. the potential applicant had a negative history with someone at the school).
Personally, I think being discouraged from applying is worse than applying and getting a rejection letter. If someone discouraged my DC from even applying, I would be insulted that they didn't even deem my DC worthy of consideration. |
As with many private schools in the area, the most off putting part of Norwood is the admissions office. Some people there are a bit rude. That said, I have never heard of them telling a family out right, not to apply, but that is just me.
I wish schools would do a first round paper review of applicants. They can read the application and the WISC scores and suggest that you proceed to the next round (teacher rec and student visit) or not. Based on the child's age, gender, ethnicity, parents' occupation, current school, and WISC scores the school can probably determine whether your child has a shot or not. I wish that the schools we applied to had just told us up front there was no way and there never will be. No offense would have been taken.
I know what you mean. It just feels weird to know that even though a school has written you off from the get-go because of your child's WPPSI-III score, they might string you along by having you do the parent interview and playdate. It almost feel like the joke was on me!
I agree, it COULD feel that way. But personally, I think any good parent would be willing to risk a little embarrassment, if my child could possibly benefit in the end.
Just apply to the schools you think are right matches for your child and your family and take your chances - they all accept somebody - could be you!
I agree with 13:58. And if you get to the parent interview section, just be upfront with the AD and ask what your child's odds are of getting admitted to the school. I know that they can't give you a definitive answer, but they I expect that they would give you some idea whether you should be stalking the mail box come mid-March for an acceptance letter.
