I went to boarding school, and we all walked around the suburban town it's in, and took the bus to the mall, when we were freshman. Your kid will be fine.
Also, major eye roll at people who are asking if malls exist anymore. Every time we've gone to the Tysons Corner mall or the one in Bethesda, they've been packed. |

I took a 12 year old relative with a friend and gave them a cell phone to stay in touch. I was elsewhere in the mall the entire time. They were required to check in by phone every 30 minutes. I think it depends on the kid.
I'm from the UK and took a public bus to school, by myself, from age 10, as did many of my schoolmates. It's quite common through the UK and Europe. |
