Are the private schools such as STA, Sidwell, NCS, Holton, Maret, etc. worth the money?

If money were no object then where should the woman's kids go?

If she lives in Georgetown and wants to spend the money and wants the kids to either be able to walk to school or have a short drive -- any of the DC choices is fine. And, someone mentioned the British School -- the children might feel more comfortable there being with other people with British interests/customs. But, they should also check out the publics just in case the kids really like it there.

I think the British School is excellent --- give it a look

Umm...unless you have a first hand account, & NOT hearsay, spare us your negativity.

OP, look at British. Yes, it's a new school, & it is a good school. As with anything new, there are areas for growth & development.

Different strokes for different folks, people.

God forbid a school outside of the Big 3 gets some attention, right?

Wow, 3000 per month per kid, just for school.
Excluding the cost of extracurricular activities and field trips and donations etc etc

Why not just hire a teacher yourself?

PP -- If your planning to leave your estate to your kid -- why not spend the money now and get the best education money can buy. I told my kid I'm paying for the education -- she can buy her own house.

Homeschooling doesn't usually give the kids the chance to do team sports and kids need to learn how to get along with other kids. Some people spend their money on material goods & some people value the cost of a great education -- different strokes for different folks.

For people who live in DC and live in a bad public school neighborhood -- they're willing to spend the money on their kids so they don't get left behind.

Even if the public school doesn't teach your children all of things you want them to learn you are in a great city to enrich their education after school. I would never suggest home school but read The Well Trained Mind and take advantage of the museums and culture in the city. Saving the tuition also allows you to buy great extras. Music lessons, Science Camps, Dance lessons, Latin teacher or anything you want. You will love living in Georgetown. Maybe they won't have so much homework in public school and can enjoy the extras.

Stick with private if you can afford it. We live in Georgetown and lookd at the public schools. We didn't like what we saw or heard from some of the teachers who seemed oblivious to grammar rules.
