Very possible that many people turned down spots and/or that students in other grades got in and pulled their PK4 sibs along. And the data about movement is nearly a week old at this point. There's always the most movement at the very end.

Oh, do sibs not count as waitlist offers? If not that changes everything

They do not.

How do you know? Is that in a handbook somewhere? I thought they counted if they were on the school's initial lottery list.

I think the thing to keep in mind is that everyone ahead of you likely had a very good number too. And if some of those people listed Inspired Teaching or Stokes or whatever first and DCB second, then they might have matched at their first choice school.

Also, the data are just no perfect. I mentioned in another thread that Cap. City doesn't show any offers for a grade where we gave up two spots.

And if a sibling was on the waitlist and offered a spot, yes they do show up as waitlist offered.

DCB parent here. I'm not sure where the PP was going with the quip about demographics, but the PP is otherwise right. The PK4 class last year was added to accommodate siblings that weren't initially enrolled in PK3. It had nothing to do with the previous charter. I wouldn't count on that happening again this year.

Sorry - not racist - just trying to figure out why a large portion of the students eligible wouldn't enroll at PK3, but instead at PK4. There is little to distinguish this school from any other school (which have not had this problem to my knowledge), except, demographics skew more Hispanic than other schools. (Or, perhaps it's income level in which case that is still demographic?)

Was there room for them to enroll in preK3? Do you have specific knowledge of the demographics of this particular group of students? Do you know much in particular about the circumstances that made opening a new class feasible and desirable? Or do you want to simply suggest there is something wrong with how low income parents make decisions. (And, btw, most charter schools serve high needs populations ... if they don't, there's something fishy going on.)

I don't think there is anything wrong with skipping PK3! Geez. Or being not as well informed as one should have been about sibling entry preference and timing.

WHy wouldn't latino families want free PK3? Rich white families in DC sure love it!

Do we anticipate the list to keep moving? It’s moved over 10 spots already. I’m almost in single digits. I’m actually surprised it’s moved as much as it has already
