| We are opting out as well. It is a huge hassle but worth it. We are in a Title I school so I have a feeling the principal would not have been on board if we expressed our desire to opt out. I have complained to OSSE and engaged them at public forums. Thereve been no changes. |
What school is that were a principal signed off on that, I just can't imagine it being allowed to leave the school and come back! |
|
I'm laughing that some of y'all fall all over yourselves to prove your school is good because "look at the scores!!!!!!!!!!!!!". And you will call other schools bad because, "omg have you SEEN their SCORES??????"
But then you have your nanny take your kids to the park during the test because your child is higher and mightier than it all. |
Yep. Scores are their code for percentage of poor kids. If there weren’t scores they’d go back to using FARMS percentage, but it is less precise due to community eligibility programs. |
| I'd imagine the "I opt out of standardized tests" is worth triple points in their I'm-so-special-olympics |
Ha! Yes! |
No different than taking your kid out for a medical appointment and returning them to school afterwards. You sign in at the front desk, sign out and repeat. Many parents do this everyday. DCPS doesn't require the kid to miss the whole day of school if they need to leave for an hour or two. That's never been the policy. |
|
What are people who are adamantly opposed to parents opting out afraid of? That wildly popular DCPS schools like Lafayette and Janney (where the principals are quietly accommodating parents who opt out) will suddenly become UNPOPULAR in a few parents opt out because their test scores will sink? That strong teachers will be fired and schools will lose funding if this happens? That a few parents opting out will throw open the floodgates to thousands opting out, as in NY and NJ?
Don't buy into the propaganda. Doomsday just isn't on the way. |
| I don't think people are scared. I think they are laughing at you. At least I am. |
Exactly. I'm not scared of anything. I just think the hypocrisy is too big to ignore. |
|
and further, just because some of us see the hypocrisy and call it out, don't feel like you can ask us what we are scared of.
We are not running from a test. What are y'all scared of? Will you write letters to colleges on your child's behalf to get them out of the ACT/SAT? Will you write them letters to get them out of the PRAXIS test if they want to become a teacher? What about the GRE? |
| There's a pile of projection on these boards. So that poster's fear gets turned into our "fear of people opting out". Whatever - this issue holds so little interest for me. But the hysteria about something that gives the posters here something to turn into their corner of special-ness is always fun to watch. |
Why are you spending any brain cells judging others about this? |
| I am am opting out parent. I am always amazed at the amount of hostility and derision that come from the parents who aren’t opting out. Why do you care so much? You want rondoniense test—knock yourselves out. Have fun. But leave the rest of us enlightened parents alone. |
Why do you think it's worth it to be so uncooperative with your kid's Title I school? Seriously. |
