| Just correcting an incorrect statement someone made earlier in this thread. The county does not look outside because that hasn’t been a successful strategy in the past. |

Any input from BCC parents?

Will you say the same thing about a black or hispanic candidate? Shame on you. |
At MCPS teachers and leaders level, Asians are hugely underrepresented. I remember hearing only 2% MCPS staff are Asians. I wonder why? |
Define successful. As it stands now, there are far too many incompetent principals who are out for themselves and only interested in climbing. Maybe MCPS should figure out that there is a world outside of its boundaries. |
I wrote that statement and didn’t mean to imply I personally think they’re worse than internal candidates, but rather that the county feels that way. They spend years training internal folks, so they are the ones who do it “their way.” They may or may not have been successful to a parent. Yes there are way too many principals who think they’re working toward becoming CEO or something. They’ve lost sight of why they’re in that position and are more interested in power. |
got it And I completely agree with you. I know our training process is rigorous, as I've had friends jump through hoops for AP 1 and 2. Not one wishes to jump to into a principal position. and sadly, some at this point, are too trapped by the money, benefits and years to step away. I've had my degree in admin for over 20 years, entertaining this jump for a hot second early on. But it never felt quite right to me. And it definitely feels wrong these days. What a sad state we're in! Idealism in qualified candidates that should be progressive enough to move us forward is crushed early on, turning some good people into robots. |
| Good for you. It’s infected everyone. My principal (I’m a MCPS teacher) started out as kind of an “aw shucks” guy but has become conniving, maybe to keep pace with the school and county culture. I have been totally disappointed in him AND he doesn’t realize he isn’t advancing because the same people he kisses up to (at the expense of other less statusy staff)—hate him. All the internal school resource and team leaders and coaches and even former AP admin colleagues) have been trashing him all over the place. So anyone he supervises who’s not in a leadership position now feels they can’t go to him because he’s untrustworthy and kisses up to the same people who are destroying their experience. Sad and not productive. |
